Pat Senatore

Pat Senatore (born August 19, 1935 in Newark , New Jersey ) is an American jazz musician ( double bass , bass guitar ).

Senatore, whose father was a singer from Naples, received solfeggio and violin lessons from the age of five . At the age of ten he interrupted this classical training in order to become interested in jazz at the age of 14. An early school friend was Wayne Shorter , with whom he also attended Newark Arts High School . During this time he first played the baritone saxophone before switching to the trombone and finally to the double bass. After leaving school, he studied at the Julliard School of Music for two years .

In 1960 he moved to Los Angeles and soon after played in the orchestra of Stan Kenton , with which the first recordings were made in 1961 ( Horns of Plenty, Vol. 2 ). In "The Blues Story", written by Gene Roland on the album Adventures in Blues , he is featured as a soloist. Then he played with Les Brown and worked as a studio musician on the television shows by Bob Hope and Dean Martin . From 1962 he was bass guitarist with Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass, to be heard on easy listening productions such as The Lonely Bull , Whipped Cream & Other Delights (1965), The Beat of the Brass (1967), which were successful in the US charts. or The Brass Are Coming (1969). With this group he toured until 1969. During this time he wrote the title Go-Go Gone with John Pisano . He then worked with Carmen McRae , Peggy Lee , Louis Bellson , Buddy Rich , Anita O'Day , Gabor Szabo , Teresa Graves , Hampton Hawes , Kai Winding or Frank Sinatra , but returned to Herb Alpert for the album Summertime (1971). Between 1978 and 1983 he ran the Pasquale’s jazz club in Malibu, which closed in 1983. Around 1979 Senatore recorded with Frank Rosolino , Larry Willis and Roy McCurdy at the jazz club.

In the early 1980s Senatore played in the formation Feather (album Chen Yu Lips , with Ray Pizzi , Eddie Harris , Frank Zotoli , Victor Feldman , Peter Sprague , Roy McCurdy, Luis Conte, Weaver Copeland , Mahmu Pearl ). In 1988 he got the opportunity to put together a trio with Cedar Walton and Billy Higgins for a recording session ; with this VIP trio he recorded two albums ( Standards, Vol. 1/2 ) for the Japanese label California Breeze . In the 1990s he was a member of Pat Britt and Wilbur Brown's band (with Art Hillary and Clarence Johnston ). Together with Milcho Leviev and Kevin Tullius , he formed the collaborative trio LeSenTu in 2000 , which released an album. Under his own name he recorded the trio album Ascensione ( Fresh Sound ) with Josh Nelson and Mark Ferber in 2008 and 2012 . After an album with Jane Getz ( A Dot on the Map , 2013), the live recording Inspirations (Fresh Sound ) was made in 2016 in Herb Alpert's restaurant Vibrato Grill Jazz , with Tom Rainer and Christian Euman as well as Larry Koonse and Herb Alpert as guest musicians. In the field of jazz he was involved in 36 recording sessions between 1961 and 2016.
