Patrick Bordeleau (born March 23, 1986 in Montreal , Québec ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Cardiff Devils in the British Elite Ice Hockey League since August 2016 .
Bordeleau is a defensive striker who plays on the left wing and is mostly used as an enforcer in the fourth row because of his tough tackle and physical stature . Because of this style of play, Bordeleau often receives penalty times, so he holds the franchise record at the Lake Erie Monsters with 435 penalty minutes in one season .
Career
Bordeleau began his career in the 2003/04 season with the Val-d'Or Foreurs in the Canadian junior league Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec , where he was on the ice in three seasons. The following years in his career were marked by many club changes. In the 2006/07 season he was active for the Weyburn Red Wings , Valleyfield Braves , Drummondville Voltigeurs and the Acadie-Bathurst Titan in various youth leagues, before he played the following season in the East Coast Hockey League with the Charlotte Checkers , Wheeling Nailers and spent the Pensacola Ice Pilots and played a game for the University of St. Thomas team .
In the 2007/08 season, the Canadian was even active for six different clubs, including the Augusta Lynx and the Florida Everblades in the ECHL. In addition, he was able to book a few appearances in the American Hockey League for the Albany River Rats , Springfield Falcons , Milwaukee Admirals and the Lake Erie Monsters . With the Monsters, the left-handed shooter finally received a contract for the 2009/10 season and was able to establish himself as a defensive striker in the team in the following three years.
After Bordeleau had already participated in a training camp of the Colorado Avalanche in 2010, he signed his first contract in the National Hockey League there in the summer of 2011 . After he was initially used in the 11/12 season at the farm team in Lake Erie, he played his first games in the NHL in the 12/13 season . In the summer of 2013, the attacker's contract in Colorado was extended by three years and Bordeleau was used as a regular with the Avalanche in the following season . In the run-up to the 2014/15 season , Bourdeleau suffered a serious back injury that forced him to take a several-month injury break. In December 2014, he came to his first game of the season, in which he suffered a patellar fracture and was out the rest of the season.
In the 2015/16 season, Bordeleau played exclusively for the Avalanche's new farm team, the San Antonio Rampage , before he decided to move to Europe in August 2016 and signed a one-year contract with the Cardiff Devils from the Elite Ice Hockey League .
