Paul Müller (actor)
Paul Konrad Müller (usually acting as Paul Muller ; born March 11, 1923 in Neuchâtel ) is a Swiss actor in international films.
Life
Beginnings
As the son of a rich bourgeois family active in the Salvation Army , Müller went to Paris via Brussels and Bern in 1934, where he attended the Conservatoire national supérieur d'art dramatique in 1941 during the occupation - after training as a typographer - and afterwards Graduating debuted as a stage actor the following year. This was followed by various engagements at theaters such as the Théâtre Pigalle , Salle Pleyel and Théâtre des Ambassadeurs , until Muller decided in 1944 to do military service. This also led him to Indochina . In 1947 and 1948 he played again with various companies in France, the French occupation zone and in Florence . He started his film career after two films in France in 1949 in Italy , where he also played most of his roles.
Cinema actor
From the following decade he was seen in numerous films as a gangster, sadistic squire or mad scientist; a role type of immorality that he represented throughout his career. In addition to his extensive work in genre films , and especially in horror films , he also worked with directors such as Mario Monicelli and Pietro Germi . However, the director he worked with the most is enfant terrible Jess Franco , with whom he starred in seventeen films from 1968 to 1976. Muller's professionalism helped him achieve steady and respected work as an important supporting actor; occasional leading roles (as in La città si difende , 1951 or Amanti d'oltretomba , 1965) were the exception. Every now and then he got the chance to show his comedic streak: He worked in some films in the Fantozzi series.
He also played in television games and series; He was also a guest several times in German crime novels such as Derrick or Der Alte , and Müller also appeared in the Austrian Ringstrasse palace .
His full filmography includes nearly 250 films made between 1948 and 2004. A rare interview with the actor is included on the extras on the DVD of The Vampire of Notre Dame .
