Paul von Köberle
Paul Köberle , knight of Köberle since 1917 , (born May 19, 1866 in Memmingen , † February 4, 1948 in Rammelsbach ) was a Bavarian lieutenant general .
Life
Origin and family
Paul was the son of the Protestant church council Hermann Köberle and his wife Sophie, née Burger. His brother was the Rostock theologian and university professor Justus Köberle .
He had been married to Elise, nee Lippert, since April 20, 1892. The couple had a son and three daughters. Köberle and his wife are buried in the cemetery of the Laurentiuskirche in the Ortenburg district of Steinkirchen .
Military career
After graduating from the humanistic grammar school on August 21, 1884, Köberle joined the 2nd Pioneer Battalion of the Bavarian Army as a three-year-old volunteer . There he was promoted to second lieutenant on June 8, 1886 . From 1895 to 1998 Köberle graduated from the War Academy , which pronounced him suitable for the general staff and in a special way for the subject. In the further course of his military career, Köberle was from 1911 department head of Army Department I (AI) in the War Ministry .
At the outbreak of the First World War , Köberle was major general and as such he was employed as General of the Pioneers in the 6th Army from February 9, 1916 . He was involved in the trench warfare in Flanders and Artois , fought in the spring battle at Arras and the battle in Flanders, as well as the Chemin des Dames and the Ailette . As commander of the 6th Reserve Division , Köberle was responsible for the successful defense against enemy breakthrough attempts. a. 20 enemy chariots were destroyed, awarded the Knight's Cross of the Military Max Joseph Order on July 31, 1917 . His hometown made him an honorary citizen on January 31, 1918 . In 1918 he was relieved of his post and from August 25, 1918 , he was transferred to the main headquarters as Bavarian military representative .
After the end of the war, Köberle was the Bavarian State Councilor from January 21, 1919 and as such head of the Department for Personal Affairs in the State Ministry for Military Affairs. On August 22, 1919, Köberle resigned from active military service while being awarded the character of Lieutenant General.
