Justus Köberle

Karl Justus Adolf Köberle (born June 27, 1871 in Memmingen , † February 6, 1908 in Rostock ) was a German Protestant theologian and university professor .

family

Justus Köberle was the son of the Protestant pastor and church councilor Hermann Köberle (* December 8, 1832, † May 26, 1901) and his wife Sophie, b. Burger (8 May 1836 - 5 March 1909). The names of his siblings are known:

He was married to Emmy, daughter of the theologian Wilhelm Walther , since 1906 ; the marriage remained childless.

education

Justus Köberle attended the Latin school (today: Bernhard-Strigel-Gymnasium ) in Memmingen and from 1885 to 1889 the gymnasium near St. Anna in Augsburg .

He enrolled in the winter semester 1889/1890 to study theology at the University of Halle , in the winter semester 1891/1892 at the University of Berlin and in the winter semester 1892/93 at the University of Erlangen ; there he was a student of Johann von Hofmann . In August 1893 he completed his first theological exam in Ansbach and, in addition to his practical work, attended the Protestant seminary in Munich from 1893 to 1895 ; from 1895 to 1896 he had a study visit to study oriental languages in Erlangen.

Career

Justus Köberle became assistant chaplain in Munich-Schwabing on September 1, 1896, and passed his second theological exam in Ansbach in 1898.

In the summer semester of 1898 he became a repetitionist for Old Testament theology at the University of Erlangen, completed his habilitation at the university there on March 8, 1899 for the Old Testament and on March 31, 1899 also became a private lecturer for Old Testament exegesis .

On October 1, 1904, he was appointed as the successor to the late Wilhelm Volck as a full professor of Old Testament exegesis at the University of Rostock .

From 1907 to 1908 he was dean of the theological faculty .

Justus Köberle died of diabetes ; after his death, Ernst Sellin succeeded the chair .
