geography

The hamlet is located 25 kilometers southwest of Landeck , in the valley near Ischgl , opposite Pasnatsch on the other side of the Trisanna , at an altitude of about ( 1360  m above sea level ).

The place has about 20 buildings. It lies at the foot of the Lattenkopf  ( 2,454  m above sea level ), with the Pitschbach , one of the many more dangerous avalanche stretches in the Paznaun, flowing a little below , and next to the larger Madlein avalanche the second that directly threatens the town of Ischgl - hence the Kar am Lattenkopf complex avalanche protection.

A little further downstream, opposite the sports field, is the Ischgl high ropes course .

history

The hamlet was probably built around the Paznaun Emergency Chapel (Chapel of St. Blasius) . It bears the patronage of Saint Blasius von Sebaste , helper in need and patron saint of cattle - since no grain cultivation was possible in the Paznaun, they specialized in the breeding of young cattle, which were exchanged for duty-free imported grain and maize. The baroque chapel is a listed building.

The chapel was originally built in 1675, damaged by a flood in 1762 and destroyed in the great flood in 1764. The chapel was rebuilt uphill after 1764. The hamlet of Paznaun itself was probably built around this new fourteen helper chapel from the later 18th century.

In 1871 there were heavy mudslides over the Pitschenriefe.
