Peter Bredahl
Peter Christian Bredahl , also Bredal , of Bredahl , Russian Пётр Петрович Бредаль (* 1681 in Trondheim , † March 1 jul. / 12. March 1756 greg. In St. Petersburg ) was a Danish-Norwegian naval officer in the Russian service, most recently Vice Admiral .
Life
Peter Bredahl was a son of the medicus of the same name in Trondheim. In 1701 he began training as a military surgeon , but broke it off in 1702. In 1703 he joined Admiral Cornelius Cruys and joined the Russian fleet as a lieutenant at sea . In 1710 he became a lieutenant captain and served in the Azov flotilla .
In 1712 he was transferred to the Baltic Fleet ; the following year he was promoted to captain 4th rank. On August 7, 1714 he took part in the sea battle at Hanko .
In 1715 he became captain of the 3rd rank and commanded seven ships. He left Tallinn on April 20 with the four ships Samson (36 cannons), St. Paul (32 cannons), St. Peter (32 cannons) and Diana (18 cannons) to attack the Swedish fleet in the Baltic Sea. This also included a landing on Gotland . He managed to capture three Swedish ships: the Enhdrning with 18 cannons, Esperance with 11 and Stockholm Gallej with 10 cannons, with which he returned to Tallinn in early May. In 1715/16 he sailed with three ships to England and Holland.
In 1717 he was promoted to captain 2nd rank . 1718 allied with Russia Danish king named him Frederick IV. The commodore of the Danish Navy. However, this was more of an honorary title, as Bredahl continued to serve in the Russian Navy in the Gulf of Finland . Promoted to captain 1st rank in 1720 , he recruited sailors for the Russian fleet in Danzig , Copenhagen and Lübeck . In 1721, as the official imperial Russian messenger, he brought the news of the Peace of Nystad to the courts in Paris and Madrid as well as the Dutch States General .
From 1724 he served as managing director of the Admiralty Office in St. Peterburg. In 1726 he was appointed rear admiral . From 1730 to 1732 he was port commander of Tallinn. In 1731 Bredahl was accepted into the Estonian knighthood . In 1733 he became the commandant of Arkhangelsk .
In the Russo-Austrian Turkish War (1736-1739) he took part under Peter von Lacy in the conquest of Azov as commander of the naval forces. In 1739 he was promoted to vice admiral .
In 1741 he returned to Arkhangelsk. When a storm struck the transfer of a fleet from the White Sea to the Baltic Sea against the Swedes in the following year , so that the poorly equipped ships had to return to Arkhangelsk, Bredahl was excluded from promotion to Admiral and ordered to report to St. Petersburg. Only through the intercession of the President of the Admiralty College did he avoid further punishment.

Peter Bredahl was first married to a daughter of the Dutch, in Danish-Norwegian service are Quartermaster General Wyllem de Coucheron († 1689), Blanceflor Sophie Coucheron. The couple had a son:
- Peter von Bredahl , chief hunter in Holstein-Gottorf , bailiff of Trittau and Reinbek and Minister resident of the Lower Saxon Empire in Hamburg
In his second marriage he married Catherine Pont (1690-1780).
