Peter Evans (* 1981 ) is an American trumpeter whose home is in New York City . He is best known for cross-genre improvisation music, as well as appearances and compositions in jazz, classical and new music.

Life

Evans graduated from Oberlin College in the early 2000s, graduating from its Oberlin Conservatory of Music in Ohio. Together with his college friend Moppa Elliott , he went to New York City as a professional musician in 2003, who brought him along with saxophonist Jon Irabagon and drummer Kevin Shea as a founding member of his band Mostly Other People Do the Killing , in which he worked until 2015.

As a musician who was keen to experiment, Evans continuously crossed genre boundaries, appeared in chamber orchestras as well as in free jazz settings, in bands and solo as a performance artist. He is a regular participant at the annual Festival of New Trumpet Music in New York City. His tours took him all over North America and several times to Europe.

His solo trumpet album More Is More was released in 2006 on Evan Parker's psi label, and his debut album as a bandleader under the title The Peter Evans Quartet was released in 2007 on Firehouse 12 Records . The regular cast of this quartet includes Brandon Seabrook , Tom Blancarte and Kevin Shea. He is also a member of the quartet Mostly Other People Do the Killing , the freestyle duo Sparks with Tom Blancarte, the Histrionics , the free jazz quintet Carnival Skin (with Klaus Kugel , Perry Robinson , Hilliard Greene and Bruce Eisenbeil ), the Language project Of with Charles Evans and the Christmas Duo with trombonist Sam Kulik. He also worked on Evan Parker 's album The Moment's Energy . He is also part of the Amok Amor quartet founded in 2014 with Petter Eldh , Christian Lillinger and Wanja Slavin .

In New York, the trumpeter also appears frequently with contemporary ensembles for new music such as the International Contemporary Ensemble , Alarm Will Sound , Continuum and Ensemble 21 . On the piccolo trumpet he gives baroque music concerts, such as the Brandenburg Concerts No. 2 in the Brooklyn Bargemusic series and Bach's B minor mass in St. Peter's Church.

Evans founded his own record label More is More Records in 2011 “to bring out new and uncompromising music”.
