Peter K. Fraps

Peter Karl Fraps (born September 6, 1945 in Teplice-Šanov , Czechoslovakia ; † August 31, 2015 ) was a German doctor and medical officer, most recently in the rank of general staff doctor . In his last military service he was head of the Bundeswehr Medical Service .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1965, Fraps did his basic military service and during this time became a reserve officer candidate . From 1967 to 1973 he studied medicine and did his doctorate at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich as a medical officer candidate for the Bundeswehr. During this period, he studied at Ohio State University .

From 1973 to 1974 he was a medical assistant at what was then the Bundeswehr Hospital in Munich. During his first employment as a troop doctor and lecture hall director at the Academy of Medical and Health Services (SanAkBw) from 1974 to 1976, he acquired the additional qualification in sports medicine. From 1976 to 1978 he was trained as a surgeon at the Bundeswehr Hospital in Munich and at the Starnberg District Hospital . In 1978 he was briefly head of the medical department of the mountain and winter combat school of the Bundeswehr in Luttensee and from 1978 to 1981 then company commander of the 2nd company ( AMF ) of the medical training battalion 851. From 1982 to 1983 he was deputy regiment commander of the medical regiment 76 ( territorial army ) and in the Joined the SanAkBw as head of inspection until 1984. This was followed by assignments as a division doctor of the 11th Panzer Grenadier Division , the 10th Panzer Division and the 1st Mountain Division until 1991 , then until 1995 as a corps doctor at the II GE / US Corps and as the commander of the Medical Command 2 in Ulm and from 1995 to 1996 as a command doctor in the Army Command .

In connection with the promotion to general doctor, he was commander of the SanAkBw from 1996 to 2001. In this position he was temporarily the last post holder in the rank of general physician before this was demoted to the medical office as part of the restructuring of the Bundeswehr and the associated subordination of the institutes for medical NBC protection that had previously belonged to the SanAkBw. This was followed by employment in the rank of general staff doctor as deputy commander in the medical management command until 2003. In his last function until he was retired in September 2006, he was chief of the medical services of the Bundeswehr in Munich . The command of the medical office was handed over to Hartmut Siebertz after him .

Fraps last lived in Reichertshofen - Winden . He died shortly before the age of 70 and left his wife behind. His body was buried in the cemetery in Schäftlarn - Ebenhausen .

Awards

Fraps took part in several NATO and UN missions and was awarded mission medals from the German Armed Forces , the United Nations and NATO.

He was an officer's cross holder of the Italian Order of Merit and holder of the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon.
