Peter Weihs

Peter Weihs (born August 24, 1927 in Vienna ; † September 30, 1981 there ) was an Austrian actor , director and theater director .

After the Second World War, Weihs worked as a theater actor in Vienna from the late 1940s ; almost at the same time he began directing . In 1957 he brought the first Austrian summer theater after the Second World War in Klosterneuburg together with Helene Thimig the Urfaust on stage. In 1961, Peter Weihs staged Shakespeare's comedy Was ihr wollt in front of the garden pavilion of Melk Abbey, with Hans Holt as Malvolio, with Wolfgang Gasser , Maria Emo and Helli Servi ; In 1962, Shakespeare's comedy The Taming of the Shrew followed .

In 1962 Weihs worked in an ORF production directed by Erich Neuberg in the role of the highly talented Jewish assistant doctor Dr. Wenger in the tragic comedy Professor Bernhardi by Arthur Schnitzler .

Weihs was seen as a performer from the 1960s, later mainly in supporting roles , in a few roles in television productions .

As its first film appearance, the IMDb film database lists the Austrian television film November 3, 1918 from 1965, a television production directed by Edwin Zbonek , in which Weihs was seen alongside Erik Frey , Erich Auer and Walter Kohut as Lieutenant von Kaminski. The film is based on the play of the same name by the Austrian playwright Franz Theodor Csokor . In 1968 Weihs worked for the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation as First Lieutenant von Kaminsky [sic!] Also in a radio play version of the piece.

In the early science fiction series Alpha 2001 , he played a member of the crew of Laika 7 in 1970 . In the first and second episodes of the Austrian television series The Adventures of the Good Soldier Schwejk he played the role of Dr. Buildings. In 1975, he played the notary in the episode The Inheritance from the TV series A real Viennese does not go under . In 1975 he had a small role directed by Axel Corti in the film The Son of a Farm Worker Becomes a Construction Worker and Builds a House .

In Holocaust - The History of the Weiss Family (1978) he played the sexton of St. Petri, who works for Father Bernhard Lichtenberg , in both the first and fourth episodes . He discussed Erik Dorf with Lichtenberg and finally had to convey the news to Inga Helms-Weiß that Lichtenberg was deported to the Dachau concentration camp . Weihs also worked as a theater director. In 1968 he staged Romeo and Juliet at the Theater der Jugend in Vienna . In 1970 he directed Samuel Beckett's absurd drama Waiting for Godot at the Theater der Jugend . In 1971 he directed Georg Büchner's comedy Leonce and Lena with Kurt Sobotka as Valerio. For many years from 1964 to 1974 he also directed the Theater der Jugend as its director.

Weihs also worked as an opera director. In 1963 he was responsible for the new production of Giuseppe Verdi's opera Don Carlos at the Salzburg State Theater as a director. In 1969 he staged the comic opera List und Liebe by Joseph Haydn at the Vienna Chamber Opera ; Hans Gabor was the musical director .
