The parish church of St. Martin is a Roman Catholic church in the east of Franzen in Lower Austria . The under monument protection standing Baroque hall church with western tower is surrounded by a cemetery wall surrounded and was probably built on the basis of an older previous building.

history

Franzen left the mother parish Altpölla around 1200 and was raised to its own parish in the middle of the 14th century. Franzen was Protestant from around 1560 until the beginning of the 17th century . In 1713 the parish was re-established at the request of Baron Johann Richard Scheffers. The church was built in 1715–1724. In 1781–1775 the side walls were raised and the side sacristy extensions were built with oratorios above . The church was renovated in 1901 and restored in 1959 and 1981 .

Exterior construction

The simple church with a gable roof has a pre-built, four-story, square west tower with rounded corners on the two upper floors, arched windows , painted cuboid and pilasters and an onion helmet from 1808. The windows of the nave are oval .

Several tombstones and tombstones are integrated into the church wall : two baroque tombstones in a cartouche frame , one by Magdalena Scheffer Freiin von Dobra († 1711) on the walled door to the vestibule and one by Freiin von Ehrmanns († 1746) on the north wall; a classical tombstone by Johann Krzir († 1833) on the south wall.

On the north wall, next to the grave slab of Freiin von Ehrmanns, there is a statue of St. John Nepomuk marked 1731 .

Interior

The undivided, almost square nave with rounded corners in the east has a flat roof . The retracted organ loft was built at the beginning of the 20th century. The organ is marked 1933. The slightly raised, transversely rectangular choir has a wide arched opening to the nave. To the north and south of the choir there is a barrel-vaulted sacristy extension with oratorios above it.

There are also stained glass in the church : from 1903 Saints Elisabeth and Leopold ; from 1906 the Saints Peter , Cäcilia , Paulus and Juliana .

Facility

The baroque high altar with staggered column and pilaster structure, segmented gable with putti and foliage threads as well as an altar sheet Baptism of Christ by Matthias Pichler was made around 1719 and has a top cartouche with a picture of Saint Martin between volutes . On the tabernacle erected in 1721 there is a relief of the Last Supper .

Two corresponding baroque side altars were made in 1744. The right altar panel depicts Johannes Nepomuk and has an image of Saint Anthony and statues of Saints Catherine and Apollonia . The left altar panel, teaching Anna Maria reading from 1803, has an image of Mary with child and baroque side figures of Saints Joachim and Anna .

The baroque pulpit with figures of Saints John and Matthew dates from 1746. An allegory of faith is depicted on the sound cover .

Other furnishings include a baroque copy of a miraculous image from the second half of the 18th century, pictures of the Stations of the Cross by Joseph Kastner from 1896, a baroque baptismal font from the beginning of the 18th century, two matching grave slabs in a cartouche frame on both choir walls (left: Johann Richard Scheffer von Dobra († 1722); right: Philipp Ignaz Ehrmanns Freiherr zum Schlug († 1729)) and bells from 1922.
