The baroque village church of Kleinhüningen.

The village church Kleinhüningen is an Evangelical Reformed church in the city of Basel . It is located in the former village and current district of Kleinhüningen .

Building

This former village church was designed and built by Pierre Racine in 1710 as a small hall church in the “anti baroque ” style in just four months. The church has a retracted, tower-raised polygonal choir . The octagonal shape of the tower is unusual, Racine kept the building simple and used round and oval shapes only sparingly. The previous building was destroyed in the Thirty Years War . The foundation walls have medieval features; it has not been proven whether the parish church was built on the foundation of the previous church. In 1814 the church was shot at from the French side across the Rhine and partially damaged. In the west wall, a few cannon balls are visibly walled in, which remind of this event. In 1847 the church was renovated by Amadeus Merian . In 1908 the village of Kleinhüningen, and with it the parish, was incorporated into Basel. In 1910 the tower was raised, provided with an onion roof and given a new, larger dial. The old dial is still present as a wall decoration in an outbuilding with a meeting room. The listed church was restored in 1976 and renovated inside in 2010.

The pulpit and the organ stand still exist from the original furnishings . Parts of the organ and the prospectus date from 1819. The organ was built by the organ builder Gottlieb Immler, Basel, and later changed and rebuilt by various organ builders. In 2013, organ builder Klahre, Basel, built a new organ with 15 sounding stops on 2 manuals and pedal together with the original parts of the old organ.
