Parish church Pustritz

The Roman Catholic parish church of Pustritz , first mentioned in 1196, bears the patronage of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary . It stands on a ridge protruding to the east on the southern slope of the Saualpe in Pustritz in the municipality of Griffen in Carinthia . The church is surrounded by an originally defensive cemetery wall, which was partially removed in 1856.

Building description

The Romanesque church in the walls of the nave is mainly characterized by the late Gothic reconstruction and the construction of the new choir from 1430 to 1500 . Further redesigns took place in the Baroque and in 1856. The presented west tower with pyramid helmet has three-part, Gothic sound openings, some of which have tracery . A bell was cast by Georg Fiering in 1611. The nave is supported by four- tiered buttresses , the choir is supported by three-tiered buttresses , the north-western buttress is marked 1430 in Gothic minuscules .

The two-lane tracery windows in the choir have profiled walls and cranked and barbed cornice. A late Gothic sacristy is built on the north side of the choir and a baroque chapel from the end of the 17th century is built on the north side of the nave. The choir and the nave are covered by a uniform stone slab roof. The portal to the tower vestibule and the west portal are adorned with richly profiled, pointed arches closing garments. The star rib vault on head consoles in the vestibule shows the Lamb of God on the keystone .

Above the three-bay nave, a post-baroque needle cap barrel rests on wide plaster pilasters from 1854. The west gallery dates from the same time. The two-bay choir with three-eighths is shifted in the axis opposite the nave to the south. The ribs of the net star rib vault overlap several times and run against the walls. A late Gothic, round arched portal with a crossed frame and late Gothic door fittings, which was built around 1520, leads into the ribbed sacristy. The coat of arms of St. Paul abbot Jöbstl von Jöbstlberg is attached above the keel-arched lava niche on the south side of the choir. There is a sacrament niche next to it . This consists of a stone Renaissancewandtabernakel with Pilasterrahmung and Lunettenbekrönung and is most Balusterfuß designated 1,523th The relief shows the Annunciation to Mary. On the side of the sacrament niche, Saints Andrew and Barbara can be seen , in the lunette a man of sorrows . Next to the lunette are the figures of the princes of the apostles Peter and Paul, as well as St. Martin above . The relief of the kneeling founder Peter Strasnick is attached to the side.

The late Gothic wall paintings on the north wall of the nave from 1480 depict the Mount of Olives scene and the kiss of Judas in a border frame. Primus Haberl painted the ceiling paintings with the Assumption of Mary and the Transfiguration of Christ in 1855.

Facility

The high altar was commissioned by St. Paul Abbot Hieronymus Marchstaller and was only completed fifty years later under Phillipp Rottenhäusler (1661–1677), whose coat of arms adorns the altar. The altar with sacrificial portals and twisted, vertically slotted columns fills the choir in height and width and carries a late Gothic Madonna from the end of the 15th century, which was decorated with a Baroque scepter, crown and halo. The other figures on the main floor are Anna herself , John the Baptist and Saints Benedict and Scholastica . In the essay, the statue of Saint Catherine is flanked by Saints Valentine , James , Zacharias and Barbara. The clay figures of the Madonna and Saint Barbara stand on pedestals above the sacrificial arches.

The left side altar from the beginning of the 18th century bears the sculpture of St. Valentine and shows the same in the upper picture and the martyrdom of St. Erasmus on the predella picture . The right side altar, created around 1650 with a remarkable figure of Catherine, consists of an aedicule on a small base and a monstrance between volutes as an attachment and is decorated with simple cartilage on the base, volutes and side ears . The altar panel of the side chapel altar from 1694 shows a Pietà with a landscape with churches, including Pustritz, in the background. The statues on the side represent Saints Benedict and Scholastica, underneath is Saint Leonhard .

On the parapet of the pulpit from the third quarter of the 18th century, the painted representation of St. Paul can be seen, on the back wall of the pulpit the sower . The signs of the law in the halo form the end of the sound cover .

A baroque crucifixion group from the mid-18th century stands on consoles . Another crucifix with Mary and John is marked 1620. The console figure of the Apostle Andrew was made around 1500.

The canvas epitaph of the Prödl family from 1595 shows the raising of Lazarus . A votive picture is marked 1707.
