Philipp Kurashev ( Russian Филипп Константинович Курашёв ; transcribed : Filipp Konstantinowitsch Kuraschow; born October 12, 1999 in Davos ) is a Swiss ice hockey player of Russian descent. He has been under contract with the Chicago Blackhawks in the National Hockey League since March 2019 , which included him in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft in 120th position, and is also employed by their farm team, the Rockford IceHogs from the American Hockey League . Previously, the center ran for the Remparts de Québec in the Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec . Kurashev is considered a great talent in Swiss ice hockey.

Career

Kurashev began his career in the junior division of SC Bern before spending the 2015/16 season on loan in the GCK Lions U20 . There he completed his first full season with the Elite A Juniors in the highest-ranking Swiss junior league and recorded 18 points scorer in 34 games. Then was Center in KHL Junior Draft 2016 at the 139th position from the SKA Saint Petersburg selected, but he decided to move to North America after him in the same year, the Quebec Remparts of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (LHJMQ ) in the CHL Import Draft in 21st place.

Kurashev also established himself as a regular scorer at the Remparts, so that after 60 points from 59 games in the 2017/18 season he was also included in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft . There, the Chicago Blackhawks elected him in 120th position and equipped him with an entry-level contract in March 2019 . For the time being, however, he continued to play in the LHJMQ before he moved to the Blackhawks' farm team , the Rockford IceHogs , in April 2019 , and played his first three professional games for the team in the American Hockey League (AHL).

International

Kurashev, who runs for Switzerland, gained his first international experience at the European Youth Olympic Winter Festival 2015 . At U18 level, he represented his home country at the U18 World Championships in 2016 and 2017 as well as at the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament 2016 , whereby the team missed the medal ranks as well as at the following U20 World Cup in 2018 . In this age group, the attacker was also part of the Swiss squad at the 2019 World Cup , where the team made it to the semi-finals. There they finished fourth after two consecutive defeats, but Kurashev himself led the entire tournament with six goals scored, so he was elected to the All-Star team.

Personal

Kurashev is the son of Konstantin Kuraschow (* 1962), a former Russian ice hockey player and coach, and therefore also has Russian citizenship . His father played in the 1980s for Krylja Sowetow Moscow in the Wysschaja Liga , the highest Soviet league, and was then active, among others, at Wiener EV and Kapfenberger SV in Austria. After his active career, he moved to Switzerland, where he has worked as a trainer ever since, including as an assistant trainer at HC Davos and SC Bern.
