Philippa Funnell
Philippa "Pippa" Funnell , MBE (* 7. October 1968 in Crowborough , East Sussex as Philippa Nolan ) is a British eventer . She is one of the most successful riders today and is a five-time European champion and three-time medal winner at the Olympic Games.
Career
Funnell made his breakthrough to the top of the world at the 1999 European Championship in Luhmühlen with victory in the individual standings and with the team. She repeated this success two years later in Pau . In 2003 she was again European team champion and third in the individual at the European Championships in Punchestown . With the team she also reached third place at the 2002 World Equestrian Games in Jerez de la Frontera .
At the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney Funnell was part of the runner-up British team. In Athens , Funnell was second with the team and third in the individual at the 2004 Olympic Games . At first she was one rank down, but she benefited from the jury's decision against the German Bettina Hoy , whose horse had triggered the time measurement too early in show jumping.
In international competitions of the highest category CCI **** Funnell has celebrated five victories so far, once each at the Burghley Horse Trials and the Rolex Kentucky Three Day and three times at the Badminton Horse Trials . In 2003 she was the only rider to date who succeeded in winning these three most traditional events in the same year and thus achieving the " Grand Slam of eventing ".
At the 2010 World Equestrian Games , Funnell was only a single starter with Redesigned , she came in fifth place in the individual ranking. At the European Championships in 2013 and 2015, she was again part of the British team that won the silver medal in Blair Castle in 2015 . Twelve years after her last Olympic Games, Pippa Funnell was back at the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro . After none of the British riders with terrain were without mistakes, Great Britain remained error-free in the team competition and came in fifth.
French game developer Ubisoft has released a series of video games , named Funnell, aimed at little girls. These include titles such as Pippa Funnell for Nintendo DS and Game Boy Advance , Pippa Funnell: Stable Adventure for Game Boy Advance and the PC games Pippa Funnell: The Stud Farm Inheritance , Pippa Funnell Takes the Reins (also for Playstation 2 ), Pippa Funnell 3: The Golden Stirrups Challenge and Pippa Funnell 4: Secrets of the Ranch .
