Pietro Accolti
Pietro Accolti (born March 15, 1455 in Florence , † December 11, 1532 in Rome ) was a cardinal of the Catholic Church . He was a member of the Roman Curia and Bishop of Ancona . Pietro Accolti is also referred to as the Cardinal of Ancona ; his name is also given as Petrus de Accoltis de Aretio .
Life
He was the fourth of eight children of Benedetto Accolti the Elder, a patrician from Arezzo and citizen of Florence , and his wife, Laura Federighi, a Florentine. After studying law at the University of Pisa , he became a professor of law at the same university and at the University of Bologna . He later went to Rome to work on the Roman Curia. In 1494 he became an auditor at the Rota Romana . From 1502 to 1521 he was chamberlain of the cathedral chapter of Cambrai . On April 4, 1505 he was appointed bishop of Ancona, he resigned this diocese on April 5, 1514. In 1510 he was vicar general for the city of Rome and in 1511 nuncio in Florence.
Pope Julius II. Appointed him on 10 March 1511 his seventh consistory to Cardinal priests and awarded him on March 17 of that year, the titular church Sant'Eusebio . 1511, he was named administrator of Maillezais and remained so until 10 March 1518. On 6 June 1511 he was appointed Administrator of Cadiz ordered he held until July 24, 1521 this position in favor of his nephew when he Benedetto Accolti thereon renounced. He was a participant in the conclave of 1513, in which Leo X was elected Pope. From March 10, 1518 to September 8, 1523 he was administrator of Arras . Accolti is considered to be the leading abbreviation for the drafting of the papal bull Exsurge Domine against Martin Luther (June 15, 1520). Pietro Accolti took part in the conclave 1521-1522 , from the Hadrian VI. emerged as Pope. He was also among the cardinals entitled to vote at the 1523 conclave , which elected Clement VII as pope. On December 8th, 1523 he was elevated to Cardinal Bishop of Albano , but kept his titular church Sant'Eusebio until May 5th, 1527 in Commendam . He moved to the suburbicarian bishopric of Palestrina on May 20, 1524 , but exchanged it three weeks later for the diocese of Sabina . From June 15, 1524 to August of the same year he was administrator of Ravenna , he also renounced this in favor of his nephew Benedetto Accolti. On August 18, 1524 he was appointed administrator of Cremona , again he renounced in the course of 1528 in favor of his nephew, who had also become cardinal in 1527.
Pietro Accolti died in Rome and was buried in the local church of Santa Maria del Popolo .
