Pirjo Urpilainen (born October 25, 1978 in Kinnula ) is a former Finnish biathlete .

Pirjo Urpilainen contested her first races in 2001 in Ruhpolding in the World Cup . In a sprint race she was 92nd, with Katja Holanti , Sanna-Leena Perunka and Niina Jyrkiäinen eleventh in the relay. The highlight of the season was the 2001 European Championships in Haute-Maurienne , where the Finn 29th of the individual, 37th of the sprint, 30th of the pursuit and eighth in the relay race with Satu Pöntiö , Maija Holopainen and Anna-Liisa Häkkinen . In 2002 she entered the European Championships again in Kontiolahti and finished 36th in the individual, 23rd in the sprint, 25th in the pursuit and with Holopainen, Häkkinen and again Eija Salonen ranked eighth in the sprint race. In 2003 Urpilainen started for the first time in Khanty-Mansiysk at the Biathlon World Championships , where she was 71st of the sprint and sixth in relay with Salonen, Outi Kettunen and Perunka. It was the best result of a Finnish season in which Urpilainen participated. In 2004 she was used again twice at the World Championships in Oberhof and was 44th in the sprint and 54th in the pursuit. It took two years before it was used again at a major international event in Langdorf at the 2006 European Championships . There she came 28th in the individual, 25th in the sprint and 30th in the pursuit. With Mari Laukkanen , Kaisa Mäkäräinen and Maija Hietamies , she finished seventh in the sprint. In the 2005/06 season , Urpilainen in Antholz achieved their best result in the World Cup with 31st place in a sprint and thus missed the points by one place. In 2007 she took part in the World Championships in Antholz for the last time and came 66th in the individual, missed the pursuit by five places in the sprint as 65th and reached 12th place with the Finnish relay alongside Mäkäräinen, Susanna Porela and Laukkanen, in which she was used as a starting runner.

As a sports soldier , Urpilainen took part in several military World Ski Championships . In 2001 she finished 33rd in the biathlon sprint in Jericho . 2001 it was in Kranjska Gora 21, 2003 in Rovaniemi 16, 2005 in Predeal again 16, 2006 in Andermatt 19 and 2007 in Haanja 21 in the 10-kilometer freestyle race. In addition, she rarely competed internationally in cross-country skiing , the few races she contested in the Scandinavian Cup and FIS races .
