history

The Braunau market was established in the middle of the 13th century by the Břevnov abbot Martin on the spur between the Voigtsbach and the Steine. Probably soon after the city elevation in 1348, the suburb of Sand emerged below the Braunau city fortifications, in which mainly craftsmen lived. The suburb was connected to the city by the Niedertor, and two stairs led through the fortifications to the bastion ( Na Hradbách ) via the gate on Malzgasse ( Sladovnická ) and the dog gate .

In the course of time, the suburb expanded further north and south, largely on urban but also on monastic grounds. The northern settlement stretching on the steep slope below the monastery up to the Baderberg ( Spořilov , 470 m nm) was called Obersand , the settlement below the Niedertor at the foot of the Schafferberg from Voigtsbach to the Krimsbach was the Niedersand . The name Mitteland developed for the suburb itself . Together the three Braunau suburbs were referred to as the sands . In front of the Niedertor, the Protestants in Lower Sand built a prayer house at the beginning of the 17th century , which was burned down after the battle of the White Mountain . In 1676 the abbot Thomas Sartorius had a church dedicated to St. Wenceslas consecrated chapel, which burned down in 1684. 1689 Sartorius was in Lower Sand nor the Church of St.. Build spirit. On the site of the St. Wenceslas Chapel, the abbot Othmar Daniel Zinke built St. Wenceslas Church in 1729, which was closed in 1788. Zinke also donated the St. Spirit for 13 beneficiaries in Lower Sand .

In 1833 the Braunau suburbs in the Königgrätzer Kreis , the Sande , consisted of 424 houses in which 3,024 people lived; 25 suburban houses with 202 inhabitants belonged directly to the monastery. In the sands there was a linen mill, three cloth mills, a linen ironer, a pearl mill, a washing and bathing house and a brick factory. The Obersand consisted of 48 houses with 367 inhabitants, of which seven houses with 46 inhabitants were subject to the monastery; a covered wooden bridge led over the stones to Oelberg . Of the 68 houses in Mitteland with 419 inhabitants, two houses with six inhabitants belonged to the monastery; in medium sand , the guest house was the Golden Grape. The Lower Sand comprised 82 houses with 534 inhabitants, of which eleven houses with 85 inhabitants were subordinate to the monastery. The Lower Sander Meierhof also belonged to the monastery property. The three suburbs to the Braunauer Stadtkirche St. Peter and Paul were parish. Until the middle of the 19th century, the sands remained largely subject to the municipal town of Braunau.

After the abolition of patrimonial formed medium sand / Střední poříčí , Upper Sand / Horni Porici and low sand / Dolni Porici 1849 districts of the city in the judicial district of Braunau . In 1868 the sands were assigned to the Braunau district . In 1874 a swimming school was set up on the Steine am Obersand. Between 1883 and 1907 the stones between Oelberg, Großdorf and the Sanden were regulated. The St. Wenceslas Church in Lower Sand was renovated and rededicated in 1885. In 1892 Schroll had a poor house with 27 apartments built in Obersand No. 76, which then became the property of the city. In 1896 the district hospital was inaugurated in Lower Sand.

After the establishment of Czechoslovakia in 1918, Mitteland , Obersand and Lower Sand lost their status as districts of Braunau.
