Career as a player

Van Boekel made his debut in paid football with Telstar as an A-youth in the 1993/94 season . A few days before his 18th birthday, he was substituted on for the first time in the Eerste divisie in the away game of Velsener at SBV Excelsior on September 4, 1993. Two more short missions followed for the regular right full-back this season, after which he moved to the first division relegated VVV in Venlo . Here he played for two years with Gerald Sibon , who was one year older than him ; In 1996/97 he was in a defensive row with ex-international John de Wolf . From the 1997/98 season he was a permanent member of the Venloer team and made 31 appearances this season and 32 in the following season. After the 1999/00 season, however, his contract was not extended. Van Boekel moved, after 129 appearances with eight goals in the Eerste divisie, to JVC'31 in the highest amateur league, the Hoofdklasse . At the club from Cuijk he wanted to recommend himself for further professional positions, but soon realized that he would not succeed because the training level was too far from the professional league. He gave up the idea of continuing to play football professionally after six months, but at the end of the 2000/01 season he was able to celebrate the championship with the Maassstadt team.

Career as a referee

Van Boekel's father Jos had already been active as a professional referee and also served internationally as a linesman . Pol van Boekel had already whistled amateur games at VVV in his last time. At the match NEC against RKC Waalwijk on December 6, 2003, van Boekel was assigned as fourth official and took over the game management in the 20th minute when Jan Wegereef could not continue due to a groin injury.

In the 2005/06 season van Boekel was promoted to the A-list of the KNVB, his first regular first division game was RBC Roosendaal against NEC on February 24, 2006.
