The continual population decline in the 20th century is largely due to the mechanization of agriculture .
economy
For centuries, the inhabitants lived mainly as a self-sufficient living from agriculture, which also included a little cattle-raising (sheep, goats, chickens) and viticulture. The surpluses generated could be sold in the nearby markets of Medina de Campo. Today some residents work in the nearby town.
history
In 1250 the place name was Pozollez , later also Pozoldez or Pozal de las dos iglesias ; The name Pozal de Hez ("Abundance of Wine") has also been passed down and refers to the formerly over 100 bodegas near the village.
Attractions
- Only sparse ruins remain of the medieval fortress (castillo) .
- Erected in the Mudéjar style on the foundations of a castle, the eastern parts of St. Iglesia de San Boal , consecrated to Baudilius of Nîmes , are the main attractions of the place; they originated in the 13th century. The apse consists of brick - blind arches with intermediate segments made of plastered rubble stones . The multi-level bell tower , structured by pilaster strips and terminating with a lantern , rises above the crossing and is completely covered with bricks. The completion of the nave and the facade lasted until the 14th century. In the early 17th century, the church was modernized by the architect Diego de Praves . The architecturally sparse nave is accompanied by side chapels in which there are numerous altarpieces from the 16th to 19th centuries.
- The Iglesia de Santa María , which was built in the 16th century and also shows Mudejar elements , has a four-bay nave with side chapels. The main altar shows Solomonic columns in the style of late Baroque Churriguerism ; the side altars in the side chapels are much less elaborately designed.
