Aguasal is a place and a Spanish municipality (municipio) with 19 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2019) in the province of Valladolid in the region of Castile-León .
location
The place Aguasal is in the Iberian Meseta about 46 km (driving distance) south of Valladolid or a good 25 km east of Medina del Campo at an altitude of about 755 m above sea level. d. The climate in winter is cold, but in summer it is warm to hot; the sparse rain (approx. 400 mm / year) falls over the whole year.

The continual population decline in the 20th century is largely due to the mechanization of agriculture .
economy
For centuries, the inhabitants lived mainly as self-sufficient farmers from agriculture, which also included a little cattle-raising (sheep, goats, chickens) and, to a lesser extent, viticulture. Any surpluses generated could only be sold with difficulty because of the great distances to the urban markets.
history
In the 8th century, the area was used by the Moors conquered, but already in the 9th century Asturian-Leonese army of conquered areas north Duero back ( reconquista ) . At the end of the 10th century, the Moorish military leader Almansor temporarily destroyed the Christian successes. In the 11th century, the Kingdom of León extended its territory again to the Duero border. After previous attempts, León finally united with the Kingdom of Castile in 1230 . The place experienced its heyday in the late Middle Ages and in the early modern period.
Attractions
- The Iglesia de San Pedro is the parish church of the place. It was built in the 16th century and has a bell tower in the Mudejar and a subsequently added portico ( portico or galería porticada ) on the south side. Its interior is single-aisled; the altarpiece is from the 16th century.
- In the vicinity of the village there are two small, deep lagoons whose water tastes slightly salty ( aguasal ).
