Barcial de la Loma is a place and a Spanish municipality with 92 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2019) in the west of the province of Valladolid in the region of Castile-León .
location
The place Barcial de la Loma is located in the Iberian Meseta about 65 km (driving distance) northwest of Valladolid or almost 85 km southeast of León at an altitude of about 885 m above sea level. d. The climate in winter is cold but rarely frosty, in summer it is warm to hot; the sparse rain (approx. 420 mm / year) falls throughout the year.

The continuous population decline in the second half of the 20th century is mainly due to the mechanization of agriculture and the associated loss of jobs.
economy
For centuries, the inhabitants lived mainly as self-sufficient farmers from agriculture, which also included a little cattle-raising (sheep, goats, chickens) and, to a lesser extent, viticulture. Any surpluses generated could only be sold with difficulty because of the great distances to the cities.
history
In the 8th century, the area was used by the Moors conquered, but already in the 9th century Asturian-Leonese army of conquered areas north Duero back ( reconquista ) . At the end of the 10th century, the Moorish military leader Almansor temporarily destroyed the Christian successes. In the 11th century, the Kingdom of León extended its territory again to the Duero border; Barceale de Lomba , first mentioned in 1095 , was one of them. After previous attempts, León finally united with the Kingdom of Castile in 1230 . The place experienced its heyday in the late Middle Ages and in the early modern period.
Attractions
- The Iglesia de San Pelayo , built mostly from bricks in the 16th century, is dedicated to the half-legendary youth and martyr Pelagius of Córdoba (around 912–926). The west side of the structure in its on Roman models in the Pyrenees receiving reference clock tower is erected from the exact bright hewn natural stone. A portico (portico) or (galería porticada) is in front of the single-nave church building on the south side - an element of Castilian architecture of the 11th and 12th centuries (e.g. in the provinces of Burgos , Segovia and Soria ). Parts of the interior of the church are covered with wooden artesonado ceilings. The choir area was changed in the 18th century, but the high altar from 1525 has been preserved.
