The continual population decline in the second half of the 20th century is largely due to the mechanization of agriculture .
economy
For centuries, the inhabitants lived mainly as self-sufficient farmers from agriculture, which also included a little cattle-raising (sheep, goats, chickens) and, to a lesser extent, viticulture. Any surpluses generated could only be sold with difficulty because of the great distances to the urban markets.

history
Already in the 10th century, the united Leonese-Castilian armies under the leadership of the Castilian Count Fernán González conquered the depopulated areas south of the Duero, but the Moorish military leader Almansor destroyed the successes again at the end of the 10th century. After the final reconquest ( reconquista ) by Alfonso VI. At the end of the 11th century, the largely deserted area was repopulated; the place Alcazarén ("two palaces") came to the Kingdom of León . After previous attempts, León finally united with the Kingdom of Castile in 1230 . In 1482 the Catholic Kings granted the townspeople certain privileges. Alcazarén experienced its heyday in the late Middle Ages and in the early modern period.
Attractions
- The Iglesia de San Pedro originated in the 13th or early 14th century; from this time or entirely of staggered three-story comes Brick - arcades existing apse in Mudéjarstil . The bell tower and the nave date from the 16th century. Next to the apse there is a natural stone fountain from 1795. Today the church is used as a cultural center - all the altars have been transferred to the Iglesia de Santiago Apóstol ; the main altar, which had covered some Gothic frescoes, is now in the Ermita del Cristo del Humilladero .
- The Iglesia de Santiago Apóstol was built around the same time and its apse has roughly the same structure - only that the two lower rows of blind arcades are arranged one above the other. Here, too, the nave and bell tower were renewed in the 16th century. The renaissance portal made of natural stone on the north side is remarkable . Inside there are several altars with carved essays. The baroque design of the Capilla de la Virgen del Carmen with a gilded altarpiece and a stuccoed and brightly painted dome with almost 'primitive' angel figures deserves attention .
- Approx. 1 km southwest of the town center is the Ermita del Cristo del Humilladero, which was designed in the Baroque style around the middle of the 18th century .
- The town hall (ayuntamiento) in its present form was built in the 18th century; the facade of the original building, built in the 16th century, dominated by two-storey arcades, has been partially preserved.
