The Prinsesse Isabella is a Danish double-ended ferry .

description

The ship was designed by OSK-ShipTech. The construction contract was signed on March 18, 2013. The construction costs were given as just under 200 million DKK . The ship was built under construction number 2872/1 at the Remontowa Shipbuilding yard in Gdansk . The keel was laid on August 30, 2013, the launch on March 27, 2014. The ship was completed on February 9, 2015.

The ferry has been in service on the Hov – Sælvig route since March 2015. The journey time is around an hour. The ferry of the shipping company Samsø Rederi that the in Ronne on Bornholm based businesses Færgen bereedert is deemed to be EU's first domestically ferry service with LNG propulsion and the island blends in well with the ecological profile Samsø , which largely self their energy needs and from renewable energies . The ship is bunkered in Hov while it is berthed . A maximum of 15 minutes is allowed for bunkering. Around 12 m³ of LNG can be stored during this time. The liquefied natural gas required to operate the ship - currently still liquefied natural gas - is transported from Rotterdam to Hov by tanker . Two tankers are in use for the system: one is at the pier in Hov and serves as a tank for the liquefied natural gas, while the second truck fetches new fuel from Rotterdam. In the medium term, the liquid gas required to drive the ferry is to come entirely from biogas plants on the island.

The ferry was originally due to be delivered in mid-September 2014 and, from the beginning of October 2014, will replace the Kanhave that had been used on the route until then . Due to problems with the engines, however, the construction of the ferry was delayed, so that the chartered ferry Ane Læsø temporarily served the route Hov – Sælvig.

The ship started out as Samsø . On June 6, 2015, it was renamed to Prinsesse Isabella . Godmother was Princess Isabella, the daughter of Mary Elizabeth, Crown Princess of Denmark .

In 2015 the ship was named “Danish Ship of the Year” by Maritime Danmark.

Technical data and equipment

For electricity generation are four Wärtsilä - generator sets (type: 6L20DF) are available. The engines can be operated with liquid gas or diesel . A Scania diesel generator (type: DI9) with an output of 240  kW is available for emergency operation . Propulsion is carried out by four electrically driven Schottel propeller pods , each with an output of 850 kW. The ferry's gas tank holds 40 m³, the diesel tank 80 m³.

The ship is equipped with an automatic mooring system to minimize the time spent in port. The ferry is loaded and unloaded via a ramp at each end of the ship, each of which is located behind a hydraulically operated flap . Pedestrians have access to the port and starboard sides . Around 15 minutes are allotted for a complete circuit in the port.

The vehicle deck is located on the main deck of the ship. The superstructures span the vehicle deck in the middle part of the ship, so that the vehicle deck is closed at the top in this area. On the port and starboard side there is a 55.8 meter long, height-adjustable car deck with two lanes each, which can accommodate 62 cars. A total of 690 lane meters are  available for vehicles on which 160 cars can be transported. 480 meters of gauge are available on the main deck. The ship is approved for 600 passengers. There are 405 seats on the passenger deck above the main deck, and a further 195 seats are on the open sun deck, which is accessible from the passenger deck.

The ship is equipped with two marine evacuation systems for 600 people, three life rafts for 150 people and a lifeboat that can be lowered into the water with a davit , as well as life jackets and rings .

The hull of the ship is reinforced with ice ( ice class "C").
