History, economy and infrastructure
The history of Putzmannsdorf is closely linked to the history of the neighboring town of Pottschach . From 1246 to 1254 the lords of Kranichberg were also lords of the Pottschach rule. Around 1250, a servant of the Kranichbergs with the name Potzmannus de Potschako (Potzmann von Pottschach) was sitting at Pottschach Castle . Putzmannsdorf owes its foundation and its name to this Potzmannus.
Until the 19th century, Putzmannsdorf was a farming village with 12 houses in the area of today's Fabriksstraße and Bauerngasse. This number has increased steadily since 1832:
year | Houses | Residents |
---|---|---|
1832 | 12 | 59 |
1880 | 22nd | 175 |
1934 | 78 | 474 |
1951 | 114 | 589 |
1971 | 218 | 869 |
2001 | 337 | 762 |
Putzmannsdorf forms its own cadastral community . When the manors were abolished in 1850 and communities emerged, Putzmannsdorf formed the local community of Pottschach with the cadastral communities of Pottschach and Holzweg. It was incorporated into Ternitz in 1971, so that Putzmannsdorf has since been part of the municipality of Ternitz.
The increase in population in the 19th century is mainly related to industrialization. In 1875, Franz Burkhard acquired the Hafingmühle on the works canal in Putzmannsdorf and set it up as a wire drawing machine. After his death, the business was continued under the name of Franz Burkhards Söhne and is still in existence today.
