Qeqertarsuaaraq [ qɜqɜˌtːɑsːuɑːʁɑq ] (the old spelling K'eĸertarssuâraĸ ) is a desolate fallen Greenlandic settlement in the district Qaqortoq in kujalleq .

location

Qeqertarsuaaraq is located in the southeast of the island of Qaarusuarsuk . The eponymous island of Qeqertarsuaaraq and Ulamertoq lie in front of the village . Qassimiut is the next inhabited place, 5.6 km to the southwest .

history

Qeqertarsuaaraq was first settled in 1786. The place was then temporarily abandoned. It was inhabited again by 1893 at the latest.

From 1911 Qeqertarsuaaraq belonged to the municipality of Qassimiut.

In 1919, 45 people lived in Qeqertarsuaaraq, who lived in nine houses. Among them were ten hunters who made their living by hunting seals and foxes, but they also grew beets, potatoes and rhubarb and raised sheep. There was a catechist and a midwife in town.

In 1937 a school chapel was built. Before that, the lessons took place in the catechist's home. Between 1930 and 1960, around 50 people lived in Qeqertarsuaaraq. From 1950 Qeqertarsuaaraq belonged to the municipality of Qaqortoq . In 1962 only eleven people lived in Qeqertarsuaaraq and the place was then only used as a shepherd's settlement for a few years before it was completely abandoned in 1976 at the latest.
