Saqqarmiut [ ˌsɑˈqːɑmːiutˢʰ ] (according to the old spelling Sarĸarmiut ) is a deserted Greenlandic settlement in the district of Qaqortoq in the municipality of Kujalleq .

location

Saqqarmiut is located in the east of a tiny peninsula in the south of the large Saqqarmiut Timaat peninsula, rich in lakes . The fjord Kiterput Qoornoq runs in front of the place . 15 km to the east-southeast is Qassimiut, the next inhabited place.

history

Saqqarmiut was founded around 1905.

From 1911 Saqqarmiut was part of the Qassimiut municipality.

In 1919, 28 people lived in Saqqarmiut, who lived in four houses. There was also a 16 square meter school chapel where an unskilled catechist taught. Among the residents were six hunters who made a living by hunting seals and foxes.

The number of inhabitants hardly changed until 1946. In 1950 Saqqarmiut became part of the Qaqortoq municipality . In 1953 only 15 people lived at the place where they lived. Then the number rose again to around 30 residents. In 1969, however, the last two residents left the residential area. The area was later used for sheep breeding, but after 1976 there was no shepherd settlement on site.
