In December 2012, Quarteera published a brochure in German on the situation of gay rights in Russia and the successor states of the Soviet Union with financial support from the Hirschfeld Eddy Foundation . In cooperation with the Berlin Gay Museum , Quarteera organized an exhibition on the situation of homosexuals in the Soviet Union and Russia in the summer of 2013.

In 2013 the working group "Enlightenment" was founded in the association. The aim of this working group is to inform Russian-speaking Berliners about lesbians, gays, bisexual and transgender people and thereby counteract prejudice.

Actions, demonstrations and protests

In cooperation with German LGBT organizations, Quarteera organizes various demonstrations and information events in support of LGBT people in Russia and in other countries of the former Soviet Union . In June 2011, Quarteera and the Lesbian and Gay Association in Germany organized a demonstration in front of the Russian embassy in Berlin . Member of the Bundestag Volker Beck also took part in the demonstration .

In February 2012, Quarteera activists protested together with representatives of the Russian organization “Rainbow Association”, the international film festival “ Side by Side ”, the LSVD and the Hirschfeld Eddy Foundation against the law against “homopropaganda” initiated by Vitaly Milonov in Saint Petersburg . Several German politicians also took part in the demonstration, including the Bundestag member Marieluise Beck .

On June 23, 2012, the Quarteera car drove at the head of the parade for Berlin's Christopher Street Day , which was attended by over 700,000 people. A poster in the style of Pierre et Gilles was created for the parade , which showed the Russian President Vladimir Putin and the Russian Prime Minister Dmitri Medvedev as lovers. Numerous media around the world use this poster to illustrate their contributions to the Berlin CSD 2012. The Russian state television broadcaster Perwy kanal invited a member of Quarteera to take part in a talk show in prime time.

In November 2013, broke the Quarteera activist Vanya Kilber for a few minutes, the speech of the Russian Duma -Abgeordneten Jelena Misulina during the second Compact Conference for sovereignty "For the future of the family!" In Leipzig. Kilber disrupted Misulina's lecture by falling in front of the stage with his hands painted red. With a rainbow flag in hand, he shouted: "Misulina has the blood of homosexual and transsexual youths on their hands who have been killed or who have committed suicide" . The speaker continued while Kilber was complimented out.

In January 2014 Quarteera took part in the debate on the human rights situation in Russia against the background of the Winter Olympics in Sochi in the European Parliament . On February 1, 2014, the German-Russian conference Gold For Equal Rights took place in the Rotes Rathaus in Berlin . Quarteera was one of the organizers of this conference, which was devoted to the situation of LGBT people in Russia.

Every year a rainbow flash mob takes place in several German cities. Colorful balloons are raised on May 17th, International Day against Homophobia . In July 2012, the Quarteera activist Wanja Kilber was awarded the Hamburg Prides Prize for inventing the rainbow flash mob in 2009. Back then, the flash mob took place in more than 30 Russian cities and has now become an international action.

Support for asylum seekers

Quarteera supports people who want to apply for asylum status because of discrimination based on sexual orientation in Germany. The organization helps to find lawyers and to prepare for the talks with the German authorities.

In September 2013, a 26-year-old gay man from Novosibirsk was granted asylum status with the support of Quarteera. This was the first known case in which a homosexual from Russia was granted asylum in Germany because of discrimination on the basis of his homosexuality.

Since the law against "homopropaganda" came into force in Russia, Quarteera has received several inquiries a day asking for help with the asylum procedure. Until November 2013, however, only two people could be helped, a total of twelve cases were processed. However, Quarteera expressly advises Russian LGBT people not to apply for asylum in Germany, but recommends considering other options for emigration, as a successful outcome of the asylum procedure in Germany is hardly to be expected.
