The Russian LGBT network ( Russian Российская ЛГБТ-сеть ) is a supraregional organization in Russia that is independent of the government and deals with the protection of rights and the social adjustment of sexual and gender minorities .

The organization was founded in 2006. On October 19, 2008, the organization was reorganized into the national social organization Russian LGBT Network , and Igor Petrov was elected chairman. At the moment (as of April 2009) it is the first and only supraregional LGBT organization in Russia. The Russian LGBT network includes 13 regional departments and 10 regional organizations.

The Russian LGBT network is a member of the International Lesbian and Gay Association (ILGA).

aims

The goals of the organization are public support for the elimination of all forms of discrimination based on the characteristics of sexual orientation and identity , the promotion of tolerance in Russian society, and the integration of gays , lesbians , bisexuals and transgender people into society.

activity

The Russian LGBT Network provides targeted support for psychologists , lawyers and other professionals engaged in the LGBT - community work, as on initiatives and local civil rights LGBT organizations.

Together with Memorial, the network is working towards recognition of those injured in the criminal prosecution of homosexuals in the Soviet Union . In this context, the year 2009 - the year of the 75th anniversary of the initiation of the criminal prosecution - was named the "Year of the memory of gays and lesbians - the victims of political reprisals".

In April 2008 the representatives of the network met with the EU human rights commissioner Thomas Hammarberg .

From March 23 to 29, 2009, the third information and education campaign “Week against Homophobia” took place in Russia with the support of the Russian LGBT network. In the course of this, discussions, film screenings, street actions and performances took place in Arkhangelsk , Kemerovo , Tomsk , Omsk , Krasnoyarsk , Naberezhnye Chelny , Novosibirsk , Petrozavodsk , Tyumen , Rostov-on-Don , Chelyabinsk , Saint Petersburg .

On May 7, 2009, at the final press conference in Moscow , the Russian LGBT network and the Moscow-Helsinki group published the lecture “The ordinance of lesbians, gays, bisexuls and transgenders in the Russian Federation”. This is the first comprehensive exploration of LGBT law in Russian history. An analysis of Russian legislation was presented on 100 pages, which also deals with the specific forms of legal violations and discrimination.

On May 17, 2009, the rainbow colored flash mob took place in Saint Petersburg .

On 17 May 2009 the International Day Against Homophobia , the so-called "found Rainbow - flash mob " held during which representatives of the LGBT community balloons were flying with the leaflets into the air. The action took place in Saint Petersburg, Moscow , Tyumen, Ivanovo , Volgograd , Rostov-on-Don, Naberezhnye Chelny, Kemerovo, Tomsk, Yekaterinburg , Kazan , Bryansk , Izhevsk , Khabarovsk , Ufa , Penza , Chelyabinsk, Perm , Samara , Saratov , and Togliatti Arkhangelsk instead. According to the LGBT organization “Vihod” (literally translated: “ Coming-out ”, the organizer of the flash mob in St. Petersburg), more than 200 people have gathered. It was the largest civil rights campaign in the history of Russia devoted to the problems of LGBT people.

On July 15, 2009, the representatives of the Russian LGBT network met with Vladimir Lukin , the Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation, where the above-mentioned lecture was presented to him. As a result of the meeting, Lukin stated that LGBT people should have the same rights as all other people: "If the rights of the specific person in connection with their sexual orientation are violated, we are ready to protect their rights". According to Igor Petrov, this was the first time in Russian history that a state representative had officially met with LGBT activists.
