The Yanatile district is located in the province of Calca in the Cusco region in south-central Peru . The district was established on May 18, 1982. It has an area of ​​1993 km². The 2017 census counted 8,590 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 8158, in 2007 it was 10,959. The district administration is based in the small town of Quebrada Honda with 2433 inhabitants (as of 2017) at an altitude of 1357  m on the right bank of the Río Yanatile . Quebrada Honda is located 100 km north-northwest of the regional capital Cusco .

Geographical location

The Yanatile district extends over the northern part of the province of Calca. The rivers Río Yanatile and Río Mapacho , both right tributaries of the Río Urubamba , drain the area in a north-westerly direction. Mountain ridges of the Peruvian Eastern Cordillera run between the two rivers and along the northeastern district border .

The district of Yanatile borders in the west on the district Ocobamba , in the north on the district Quellouno , in the northeast on the district Manu ( province Madre de Dios ), in the east on the district Kosñipata ( province Paucartambo ), in the southeast on the district Challabamba (also in the province of Paucartambo) and in the south to the district of Lares .
