Roman forces in Cappadocia

The Roman armed forces in Cappadocia ( Latin exercitus Cappadocicus ) consisted of the legions and auxiliary troops stationed in the Roman province of Cappadocia from 18/19 AD .

Legions

The following legions (or parts of them) were stationed at different times in the province of Cappadocia at the following locations:

The Legio VIIII Hispana was transferred to the province under Antoninus Pius (138-161) and was destroyed in 161 in a battle against the Parthians .

Auxiliary troops

On military diplomas .. From the years 94 to 101 AD 4 are Alae and 14 cohorts listed for the province, but not all were stationed at the same time in the province:

Arrian

In Arrian 's description of the forces he mobilized for his campaign against the Alans (ἔκταξις κατ᾽ Ἀλανῶν) around 135, 2 legions, 4 alae and 10 cohorts are listed:

  • Cohors I Italica voluntariorum
  • Cohors I Ituraeorum
  • Cohors I Numidarum
  • Cohors I Raetorum

Notitia dignitatum

In the Notitia dignitatum , the following units are listed under the command of the Dux Armeniae :

  • Ala Rizena
  • Ala Theodosiana
  • Ala felix Theodosiana
  • Ala prima felix Theodosiana
  • Ala prima Ulpia Dacorum
  • Cohors (in Mochora)

Classis Pontica

The classis Pontica was the Roman fleet for the Black Sea stationed in Trabzon .
