Rachel Ann Daly (born December 6, 1991 in Harrogate ) is an English soccer player who has been under contract with the Houston Dash in the National Women's Soccer League since the 2016 season . While she is used in attack for her club, she plays for the English national football team in defense.

Career

Coming from the youth department of Leeds United LFC , Daly initially played in the English league for Leeds United and Lincoln Ladies FC at a young age . During her studies at St. John's University , she played for the St. John's Red Storm team there from 2012 to 2015 . At the same time, Daly played for the W-League franchises Los Angeles Strikers and Los Angeles Blues in 2013 and 2014 . With the latter she won the W-League championship with a clear 6-1 in the final over the reserve team of Washington Spirit . After another season with WPSL participant SoCal FC , Daly took part in the college draft for the 2016 season of NWSL after graduating . There she was committed in the first round in sixth position by the Houston Dash franchise . Daly made her debut for Houston on April 16, 2016 in a 3-1 home win over the Chicago Red Stars , where she scored her first goal in the NWSL with the interim equalization to 1-1. The 2016 and 2017 seasons Houston finished eighth. On August 20, 2017, she received her first red card in the 2-0 loss to the Portland Thorns .

In 2018 , Houston finished sixth and Daly was her team's fourth best goalscorer and top scorer with ten goals.

Houston started the new season with three wins, one draw and one defeat and leads the table. In the 2-1 win against the Utah Royals on May 11, she first scored the 1-1 equalizer and then the winning goal, but received her second red card in the 90th minute.

National team

With the English U-17 national team Daly took part in the U-17 World Cup in 2008 and was there in four games. On June 4, 2016, she made her debut in the European Championship qualifier against Serbia in the English senior team and scored her first international goal in a 7-0 win. In total, it was used in three qualifying games. But then she was not nominated for the EM.

In qualifying for the 2019 World Cup , she made four appearances. In March 2019 she won the SheBelieves Cup for the first time , playing in the 2: 2 against the USA and in the 2: 1 against Brazil . After appearances in the April test matches against Canada and Spain , she was nominated for the World Cup on May 8th . At the World Cup, she was used in five games. But she was only in the starting line-up in the group final against Japan, which she won 2-0 and in the semi-finals in the 2-1 defeat against the successful defending champions USA . In the end, fourth place jumped out for her team.
