Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege is a tactical first-person shooter that is part of the Rainbow Six computer game series . The game was developed by Ubisoft Montreal and published by Ubisoft . The game was first announced at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2014 in Los Angeles and was released for Windows , Xbox One and PlayStation 4 in December 2015 . With the announcement of "Siege" Rainbow 6: Patriots , which was originally supposed to appear as a successor to Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 , was canceled . With Rainbow Six Siege , the computer game series is realigned by focusing on the multiplayer mode; there is no campaign, only so-called “situations” and “terrorist hunts”, which are supposed to represent single player training sessions.

action

The Rainbow Special Forces is being re-launched after years of inactivity amid rising terrorist attacks around the world. The new leader of the special unit, called Six, is played and set to music by Angela Bassett . The special forces are fighting a terrorist group called the "White Mask", which pursues unknown goals but causes chaos worldwide through terrorist attacks. It comprises eleven missions, which have a total playing time of about one hour. To unlock the last, secret mission, which is the only mission to be played in co-op, the player must complete all previous missions with the maximum number of stars. Because the game was designed with a focus on the multiplayer mode, the single player mode is very short compared to the previous titles in the Rainbow Six series.

Gameplay

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege is a first-person tactical shooter in which the player takes on the role of an operator of the anti-terrorist unit. The anti-terror units are thrown together from special units from all over the world, currently represented are the German GSG 9 , the Russian Speznas , the French GIGN , the British Special Air Service (SAS), the American FBI and the American Secret Service , the Canadian Joint Task Force 2 (JTF2), the US Navy SEALs , the Brazilian BOPE , the Japanese Special Assault Team (SAT), the Spanish GEO , the Polish GROM , the SDU from Hong Kong, the South Korean 707th Special Mission Battalion (707.smb. ), the Italian GIS , the Royal Moroccan Armed Forces , the Australian Special Air Service Regiment and the Danish Jægerkorpset . Each Operator has a special ability that makes them unique in the Rainbow Six: Siege universe . All operators must first be earned with the in-game currency "Renown" (reputation), which is obtained through multiplayer rounds, playing missions or watching tutorials. For newcomers, there are also “recruits” who, although they have no special skills, can choose all weapons and gadgets.

In the multiplayer mode there are three game modes, the «casual» matches, in which everyone can play, the «With rank» mode, for which the player must have reached at least level 50 and have activated 2-factor authentication from Ubisoft and for new players there is the "newbie" game mode, which is only playable for players under level 50.

At the beginning of a round, the players have to select an operator they have earned and specify their gadgets and weapons. In addition, it can be agreed where the operators want to start at the beginning. Then the 5v5 teams get into the game. The defenders must prepare everything in the preparation phase to prevent the attackers from getting to the target. To do this, they can strengthen walls and trap doors, barricade windows and doors and use their gadgets (such as barbed wire, booby traps and signs). The target can either be a hostage who must be brought to safety by the attackers, the securing of a biohazardous goods container or the defusing of one of two bombs . During this time, the attackers can penetrate the building with small drone vehicles, search for the target and uncover the identity of enemy operators.

The difference to other multiplayer shooters is that the players cannot re-enter the match within a round. This should mean that the approach is much more tactical and each action must be carefully considered. The rounds often only last a few minutes, they can last a maximum of four minutes (excluding 45 seconds preparation phase) and in ranked mode even only three minutes.

The special thing about Rainbow Six Siege is the possibility of destroying walls, ceilings or floors. This is also the center of the gaming experience. Many walls can be blown open, broken open or shot open. In addition, trap doors offer a tactical entry through the ceiling into a target area. The attackers can rappel down from roofs and thus penetrate the building through broken windows. However, the defenders can use reinforcements to reinforce the walls, windows and trap doors so that only a few can break them open. Reinforced walls, doors and windows can slow down attackers significantly, because time is an important factor in Siege . But reinforcements can also be blown up with special skills. Only two operators (Hibana, Thermite) have these special abilities at the moment. The defenders can also set up gadgets that can slow down, injure, or even kill the attackers, such as portable shields, barbed wire, booby traps or bear traps.

The game also includes a cooperative game mode called Terrorist Hunt. In this, up to five players can storm a building together, similar to the multiplayer, with the difference that the terrorist hunt is played against computer-controlled opponents (bots).

In addition, servers were set up for the technical test of updates before the official release in the main game in order to avoid the delivery of incorrect updates in the future. General improvements and bug fixes were also made.
Y2S2 Operation Health 06/06/2017 On May 12, 2017, the responsible Ubisoft studio announced that Y2S2 would not bring any new content to the game, but instead that improvements to the game experience, the server and matchmaking should be carried out under the project name Operation Health . In order not to have to cut the promised services for season pass holders, the two Polish operators were distributed to Y2S3 and Y2S4, while the Polish card was completely eliminated.

Operation Health was implemented in two separate patches. Patch 2.2.1 was released on June 6, 2017 for the Windows version and contained the implementation of the one-step matchmaking and interactive matchmaking, as well as general fixes and optimizations of the game. Patch 2.2.2 was released on August 9, 2017 for the PC version and included, among other things, the introduction of the Alpha Packs, an upgrade of the Rainbow Six: Siege game servers and the elimination of peer-to-peer connections Terrorist Hunt and Custom Game modes. Furthermore, as part of Operation Health, the game textures were optimized in order to achieve a more efficient patch process, among other things. In addition, the map rotation in the ranked and locker game modes has been adjusted to expand the game's competitive orientation, which is why the card pool for ranked games now only contains nine cards. We are considering removing some cards from the game entirely in future patches.

Y2S3 Blood Orchid Special Duties Unit (SDU) ,

Grupa Reagowania Operacyjno-Manewrowego (GROM)

05.09.2017 In Operation Blood Orchid , the two operators Lesion (GU poison mines) and Ying (Candela grenades, extended stun grenades) from the Hong Kong SDU , as well as the Polish operator Ela (Grzmot detention mines, stun grenades) from the Polish GROM, join the Rainbow team. In addition, the Blitz operator can now sprint without giving up cover under his shield. In addition, further adjustments were made in the areas of weapon balancing, error corrections and the online experience.
Y2S4 White noise 707th Special Mission Battalion (707th SMB) ,

Grupa Reagowania Operacyjno-Manewrowego (GROM)

05.12.2017 With Operation White Noise the two operators Dokkaebi (logic bomb, makes the enemy's PDAs ring) and Vigil (ERT-7, invisibility on drones) of the 707th SMB and the operator Zofia of the Polish GROM were added. The new "Tower" map shows the futuristic "Mok Myeok" tower in Seoul , South Korea, with the game only taking place on the top floors. In addition, general optimizations and bug fixes were made.
Y2S4.2 During the mid-season reinforcements, changes were mainly made to weapon balancing and the HUD design.
Y3S1 Chimera Groupe d'intervention de la gendarmerie nationale (GIGN) ,

GRU Spetsnaz

06.03.2018 With Operation Chimera , the CBRN operator Finka (adrenaline rush, temporary advantages for the whole team) of the Russian Spetsnaz and Lion (EE-EINS-D, makes briefly moving enemies visible) of the French GIGN added to the team. Since three new, relatively large PvE maps were created for Operation Outbreak , a new PvP map was not published. In addition, adjustments were made in the area of operator balancing and other optimizations.
Event Outbreak 06.03.2018 With the start of Y3S1 on March 6, 2018, the co-op event Operation Outbreak , which is limited to two months, also started . In this, a team of three players competes in three different, action-guided missions, each with its own map, against five different types of opponents, developed exclusively for the event. The background to this is the outbreak of a previously unknown parasite infection that has attacked the population of the small US town " Truth Or Consequences ". Only the operators Ash , Tachanka , Doc , Smoke , Buck , Kapkan , Glaz , Ying , Finka , Lion and Rekrut with appropriately adapted equipment are playable for the event .

With Operation Outbreak , the time-limited Outbreak Packs were also developed, each containing one of 50 cosmetic items designed exclusively for the event.

Y3S2 Para Bellum Gruppo di Intervento Speciale (GIS) 07.06.2018 With Operation Para Bellum , in addition to the two new defenders, new gadgets also come into play, such as a bulletproof camera with a built-in infrared sensor (similar to the Glaz visor). The two new defenders are Alibi (can use three holograms that mark the position of an opponent for 5 seconds if they are touched by the opponent, one of his drones or one of his thrown grenades, or are shot down by him) and Maestro , which two Has bulletproof camera guns that can shoot lasers if necessary, each causing five points of damage, but overheating after a short time. There is also a new Villa card and the Clubhouse card has been revised.
Y3S3 Grim Sky The Unit,

Metropolitan Police Service (MPS)

04.09.2018 With Operation Grim Sky , in addition to two new operators, map editing comes into play. The so-called Hereford-Basis map is being revised in the old style. It will now actively rain on the map and will be the first map in which there is a weather difference. The new attacker is Maverick and the new defender is Clash. Maverick's ability is a welding torch that burns so-called "murder holes" into reinforced walls, making him the third hard breacher in the Rainbow team. Clash has a shield that she can deploy. This shield is intended to slow down incoming attackers and does little damage at close range. This makes Clash the first shield operator in defense.
Y3S4 Wind bastion Royal Moroccan Gendarmerie 04.12.2018 The biggest innovations in Operation Wind Bastion are the new Fortress map and two new operators. The new attacker Nomad has an air gun on her rifle. This can be used to place small air blow traps. If an opponent comes near such a trap, he is pushed away and cannot take any action for a short time. The new defender Kaid is similar to the well-known operator Bandit. With his electric claw he can electrify walls, making it harder for attackers to break through them.
Y4S1 Burnt Horizon Australian Special Air Service Regiment (SASR) 03/06/2019 This expansion introduces two new operators and a new card (Outback). The new attacker Gridlock has so-called Trax spines. She can use these traps to make certain paths more difficult for defenders. The traps can be destroyed, but this will make noise. The new defender Mozzie has a pest launcher. With this weapon he can take over individual drones of the attacker and then control them.
Y4S2 Phantom Sight United States Secret Service (USSS) & Jægerkorpset 06/11/2019 This expansion introduces two new operators, Nøkk and Warden. In addition, the Café Dostoevsky menu has been revised. Nøkk is the new attacker and has a HEL device with which she can make herself invisible to cameras, Warden can see through smoke with his Glance glasses and is not blinded by stun grenades.
Y4S3 Ember Rise APCA,

Fuerzas Especiales (FES)

09/11/2019 This expansion introduces the two new operators Amaru and Goyo. In addition, the "Canal" map has been revised. Amaru is the new attacker and can pull herself up to almost all windows as well as "droppers" and walls with her climbing hook (Garra-Hook). Goyo, the new defender, was given a shield (Volcan shield) with flammable liquid. This fire is comparable to the Capitão fire arrow.
Y4S4 Shifting tides Nighthaven 11/11/2019 This expansion introduces the two new operators Kali and Wamai from the fictional private security company Nighthaven. In addition, the "Amusement Park" map has been revised. Kali is the new attacker and can use the blasting lance of her sniper rifle to turn off enemy devices and blast holes in destructible walls and hatches. Wamai, the new defender, is equipped with Mag-NET. This device can be placed anywhere and attracts an enemy projectile, which is then destroyed with a time delay with Mag-NET.
Y5S1 Void Edge REU,

self-employed

02/13/2020 This expansion introduces the two new operators Iana and Oryx. In addition, the "Oregon" map has been revised. Iana is the new attacker and can use her Gemini replicator to create a holographic clone of herself that looks and sounds just like her, but cannot cause any damage. Oryx, the new defender, can sprint with his Remah onslaught, breaking through destructible walls and taking out enemies with shields. He can also jump up open hatches from below, explore the situation and then either climb up or let himself fall again.

Reviews

Rainbow Six Siege was expected with positive feedback at the first announcement at E3 2014. After the scope became known on the release date, Ubisoft was criticized for the relatively low content for a full price of 60 euros. However, it was previously announced that Ubisoft Montreal has provided a large team of developers who will continue to work on the game after the release and will bring out four major updates with new special forces and new maps over a period of one year.

“Finally a real tactical shooter again! Rainbow Six: Siege has great, tough multiplayer battles, but suffers from the scope "

- GameStar : 86% (test 09/16)

"The dynamic locations are a new standard for straightforward, tactically demanding action!"

- 4Players : 89% (test 12/15)

"A celebration for online shooter experts!"

- PC games : 82% (test 12/15)

Player Numbers

Within the first year, the game won around 10 million players. Since then, the number of players has increased steadily as Ubisoft regularly provides the game with updates and new content. In August 2017 it was announced that the title had been played by 20 million players and approximately 2.3 million players play it daily. Exactly two years after the release, the 25 million mark was broken. The 40 million player mark was last broken in October 2018. In September 2019, Ubisoft announced that the 50 million player mark had been broken.
