Rauental is a district of the district town of Rastatt in Baden-Württemberg .

geography

Rauental today has around 1400 inhabitants. The place is in the Rhine Valley of the Upper Rhine Plain at an altitude of 120 m at the foot of the Northern Black Forest east of the main town of Rastatt, from which the village is spatially separated by the A5 federal motorway . The town is bordered to the north and east by the B 462 , which runs from Rastatt to Rottweil .

history

The first written mention of the place as Ruwental comes from the year 1402 . The name is derived from the Old High German ouwa for island or floodplain , as a water-flooded land in the rupture area of the Kinzig-Murg-Rinne .

On the occasion of the regional and district reform , Rauental was incorporated into the district town of Rastatt on May 1, 1972.

Of the ten seats in the local council , the CDU has six seats since the 2019 local elections , the SPD and the Free Voters two seats each.
