Raury Alexander Tullis , according to other sources Raury Deshawn Tullis , (* 10. June 1996 in Stone Mountain , Georgia ) is an American musician, rapper and singer-songwriter , who at the label Columbia Records , as well as the creative independent label LoveRenaissance (LVRN) is under contract. Raury himself describes his music as being genre-less . His sound is a mixture of hip hop , folk , funk , indie rock , rap , R&B and soul .

biography

Raury grew up with his mother in Stone Mountain , a small town near Atlanta . He has an older sister named Calvis and a brother ten years older than him.

According to his own information, he wrote his first rap lyrics at the age of eight and music was very important to him even at a younger age. In 2010 he finally decided to pursue a music career and gave up his second hobby , football . At the age of eleven, Raury had already taught himself to play guitar with the help of YouTube videos , in 2012 he joined the school band ADHD and founded a creative music group, the Tucker Music Club , at Tucker High School . His school friend Tipper Hilson, brother of R & B - singer Keri Hilson , allowed him free access to the professional recording studio Blue Room Recording in Atlanta . There he began to produce his own music in 2012 and met his current manager, the co-founder of the collective and music label LoveRenaissance , Justice Baiden. Together with LoveRenaissance , Raury continued to pursue his soft spot for music, tried to win fans, organized a so-called AntiTour in spring 2014 , as well as the RaurFest , his own huge birthday party including a debut concert in Atlanta. Despite the double burden, Raury completed his school education in May 2014 with the achievement of the high school diploma .

Music career

After releasing his single God's Whisper and the accompanying evocative music video, Raury gained a lot of attention in the music world in early 2014. Raury and his friends from LoveRenaissance were then taken under care by the Columbia Records label .

Just as his very own style of music is a diverse mix of different genres, so are his influences. According to him, his inspirations include OutKast , 2Pac , Kanye West , Kid Cudi , Frank Ocean , Lauryn Hill , Corinne Bailey Rae , Phil Collins , Bon Iver , Fleet Foxes , Father John Misty, Coldplay , Queen , Led Zeppelin , Marvin Gaye and Earth, Wind and Fire .

2014: Indigo Child

In August 2014, his debut mixtape Indigo Child was released . Raury was hailed by numerous music magazines and radio stations as the Newcomer of the Year, which would usher in the new generation . He managed, among others, on the fourth place in the list Sound of 2015 the BBC and was for the American US by the music magazine XXL 2015 XXL Freshman Class selected.

Indigo Child - the name comes from the theory of the indigo children - also stands for a movement that Raury initiated. The movement postulates empathy, tolerance and self-awareness, and collaborates with the MSFTS movement , among others . Raury makes it clear that he wants to change the world with his music and the witty, optimistic lyrics:

2015 until today: All We Need

On October 16, 2015, Raury released his debut album All We Need . Some of the songs from the album were created in collaboration with Big KRIT, RZA and Tom Morello , among others . EA Sports released the official soundtrack of the soccer simulation game FIFA 16 back in September , which also includes the song Crystal Express from the album All We Need .

Raury completed his first European tour together with Macklemore & Ryan Lewis in spring 2016.
