Career

Upshaw achieved his university qualification at the Baylor School in his hometown, where he was active in basketball, American football and athletics . However, an ankle injury in the summer of his senior year reduced the interest of colleges in American football and so Reggie Jr. decided. for Middle Tennessee State University , where his father had already studied, but for the basketball team. When Upshaw started their studies, the Blue Raiders university team had just moved from the Sun Belt Conference to Conference USA (C-USA). After being counted in the Sun Belt's leading teams, basketball team also reached in the C-USA par the first place after the regular season, but missed the Conference Tournament, a qualifier for the national NCAA finals or other Postseason -Tournament . A year later it was enough after the final defeat in the Conference Tournament at least to participate in the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament (CIT), in which, however, the opening game against the Kent State Golden Flashes was lost. In the third year in C-USA, it was enough for the first time to win the Conference Tournament, in which Upshaw was named Most Valuable Player , and thus also to qualify for the NCAA finals. Here they were seeded at 15 in their region and played at the beginning against the title favorites Michigan State Spartans , who were seeded 2 and trained by Tom Izzo . In one of the biggest surprise in the history of the NCAA tournament to date, the Blue Raiders won against the highly regarded Spartans, especially after a strong performance by Upshaw, who was his team's top scorer with 21 points. In the following round, however, they clearly lost with 25 points against the Syracuse Orange . After winning the Conference Tournament title again the following season, Upshaw's senior year was again enough to win a first round against the favored Minnesota Golden Gophers , but another second round defeat against the Butler Bulldogs meant the end of Upshaw's NCAA career.

After Upshaw in NBA Draft 2017 by any club of doped highest professional league NBA was selected reached, he "workouts" to participate in the NBA Summer League 2017 in the jersey of the Milwaukee Bucks . After all, Upshaw signed a contract with German first division club Walter Tigers from Tübingen for the 2017/18 basketball Bundesliga in mid-July and started his professional career in Europe. The Tigers, who last occupied a place in the middle of the table in the 2012/13 BBL season and were then only to be found in the lower third of the final tables, had another bad start to the season and remained without a win in the first ten games of the season under coach Tyron McCoy before he was released. Under the new coach Mathias Fischer , a victory against the competitor BG Göttingen succeeded at the premiere , before another series of defeats sealed the relegation of the Tübingen early on after 15 years of uninterrupted membership in the top division. In contrast to his mostly more experienced teammates, rookie Upshaw mostly knew how to convince and was top scorer and best rebounder of his team.
