The regional constituency of Lower Austria South-East was a regional constituency in Austria , which was formed in elections to the National Council for the award of mandates in the first preliminary investigation . The constituency included the political districts of Baden and Bruck an der Leitha . In the last National Council election in 2013 , 137,441 people were eligible to vote in the Lower Austria South-East regional constituency, with the Social Democratic Party of Austria (SPÖ) emerging as the strongest party with 30.9%. Of the four basic mandates to be awarded, one mandate went to the SPÖ.

history

After the end of the state of Austria-Hungary , several electoral districts were created for the area of Lower Austria with the electoral code of 1918 for the election of the constituent national assembly, whereby the area of today's electoral district of Lower Austria South-East was part of the district of Viertel unterm Wienerwald . After the electoral code of 1923 was overruled by the Austro-Fascist government in 1934, the original division of constituencies was largely reintroduced after the Second World War with the constitutional law of October 19, 1945. As a result, the constituency district under the Vienna Woods was affected several times by area relocations, until a far-reaching constituency reform was carried out through the National Council electoral order in 1971. The 1971 National Council electoral code reduced the number of constituencies in Austria to just nine. As a result, there was only one constituency for the federal state of Lower Austria, the constituency of Lower Austria (constituency 3). When the National Council electoral code came into force in 1992, the Austrian federal territory was finally subdivided into 43 regional constituencies and a third investigation procedure was introduced, with the Baden and Bruck an der Leitha districts being combined to form the Lower Austria South-East constituency (constituency 3G). The regional constituency of Lower Austria South-East was subsequently assigned four seats in 1993, although the recalculation of the distribution of seats in 2002 (based on the results of the 2001 census) did not lead to any changes.

Since the creation of the constituency, the SPÖ has achieved a relative majority in every election and has had a single mandate in the constituency since 1994. The ÖVP was almost always in second place in the National Council elections, only in 1999 the FPÖ was able to push the ÖVP into third place with its best election result in the constituency. For this, the ÖVP succeeded in winning a basic mandate in 2002, which was lost again in 2008. Before the National Council election in 2017 , the constituency was dissolved and divided between the newly created regional constituencies Lower Austria East and Thermenregion .
