Reinhard Gernot Dietrich (born April 16, 1957 in Langen ) is a German lawyer and historian .

education

He completed his school days in Hanau and attended the High State School there . After military service 1976/1977 studied it from 1978 jurisprudence at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main , with an emphasis in legal history . Parallel to the law, he studied in 1981 and 1982, Prehistory and Ethnology .

In 1983 he passed the first state examination and in 1986 the second state examination. In the intervening clerkship , he completed training, among other stations on the official and the district court of Hanau , at a law firm in Frankfurt am Main , in the University of Administrative Sciences Speyer and the German-Australian Chamber of Commerce in Sydney .

Professional activities

From 1980 he was active in a working group of the Hanau History Association in the regional preservation of monuments, was involved in archaeological rescue excavations and published about it. Since 1981 he has also worked as a freelancer for the local press on archaeological, historical and monument conservation issues.

In 1986 he took up a position as a research assistant with Gerhard Dilcher at the Institute for German Legal History at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt and began with a dissertation on the constitutional history of the County of Hanau-Münzenberg .

In 1990 he moved to the Hessian Ministry of Science and Art , where he initially headed the Department of Monument Preservation , and from 1991 onwards, in addition, soil preservation . Other areas of responsibility have been added over the years, such as from 1995 that of the legal advisor in the ministry's cultural department. From 1999 to 2004 he was also responsible for archives . In the Ministry he was responsible for the registration and the subsequent supervision of the World Heritage Sites in Hesse , and accompanied the registration process for the Messel Pit , the Upper German-Raetian Limes and the Wilhelmshöhe Mountain Park in Kassel . From the establishment of the German Limes Commission in 2003 until he left the Hessian Ministry of Science in early 2016, he has taken one of the two seats in the commission that the State of Hesse is entitled to. He also represented the ministry in the Monument Preservation Subcommittee of the Conference of Ministers of Education .

From 2006 to 2007 he exchanged desks with a colleague in the Federal Railway Office , Frankfurt am Main branch, as part of a "rotation", a temporary job swap. From there he returned to his old position in the ministry in 2008. He played a key role in the work on the last amendment to the Hessian Monument Protection Act , and he was also involved in the amendment of the German cultural property protection law, which resulted in the enactment of the Cultural Property Protection Act 2016.

At times he was a member of the board of the German Society for Prehistory and Early History (DGUF). Since 1996 he has been a scientific member of the Historical Commission for Hesse and since 2001 of the Historical Commission for Nassau .

Private

Reinhard Dietrich lives in Worms and is married to Ferdinand Werner .
