The Remsbach is a 3.5 km long stream in the district of Schwäbisch Hall in northern Baden-Württemberg , which flows into the middle Kocher from the right and east between Michelbach an der Bilz and its district of Gschlachtenbretzingen .

geography

course

The Remsbach arises on the western slope of the Limpurger Mountains down to Haller Bucht , a step-edge bay of the Keuperberge south of the city of Hall, through whose eastern part its middle and lower reaches then run. All in all, it moves in an arc to the north and west. It rises on the slope in the south of the Bretzinger Halde in the Haller Waldgewann Lämmergraben , where the clay and marl layers of the Mittelkeuper alternate. Therefore, depending on the weather and the time of year, the water flow begins here at strongly changing heights, at a maximum of around 480  m above sea level. NHN next to the climbing section of the so-called Reichsarbeitsdienststrasse , which previously ran consistently on a medium slope, from Hof Einkorn in the north, which joins the Höhenweg Kohlenstraße about 200 meters further east .

After less than 200 meters in its north-westerly sloping gully, the Remsbach reaches a southern continuation of the Reichsarbeitsdienststrasse, where it still crosses the Michelbacher district in the forest and at most receives inlets from the other gullies, which are more likely to have arisen as ravines. Another 100 meters down the stream it already runs on the left edge of a small meadow bay, in which small channels from the damp right slope sometimes lead to it. 400 meters down from its highest point, it then dissolves about 400 meters east of the Michelbacher Hagenhof at about 420  m above sea level. NHN completely from the forest and then flows in a damp and herbaceous, several meters wide and 200 meters long U-hollow without a permanent bed north-northwest between fields and meadows.

For about the next kilometer, it continues to flow in this direction at the foot of the Bretzinger Halde, taking in a slope stream with equally fluctuating water flow from the right, which springs from the springs of the middle or lower heap. The stream, which has already been straightened here, kinks at this inlet for a little less than half a kilometer to the west, then further to the south-west. Afterwards it passes in the shallow initial trough of its underflow blade a little to the north-west of the village of Rauhenbretzingen , crosses under the L 1055 from there to Hessental and then the railway line Schwäbisch Hall-Hessental-Waiblingen .

Beyond this, it then runs in its ever steeper Muschelkalkklinge next to the Kochertal descent loop of the Crailsheim – Heilbronn railway line, which separates from the other route here, and is then crossed by the K 2598 district road from Gschlachtenbretzingen to Michelbach at the small hamlet of Steinbrück. Here, already about 25 meters deep in the plain of the Haller Bay, it now carries water all year round. Further down in its mouth gorge, it is led past a sewage treatment plant built into it on the left, then enters the Klingenwald for another 400 meters, reaches the north end of a right meadow floodplain of the Kocher against the following wooded slope of the river and finally empties at 294.5  m ü. NHN about 3.6 km down from its source in the very last east direction from the right into the eastern loop of the Kocher around the spur of the Läubingsforstes below the waterworks in the Michelbacher Kocherwiesen.

Catchment area

The Remsbach has a catchment area of 3.8 km². From a natural point of view, its eastern part belongs to the Limpurger Berge sub-area of the Swabian-Franconian Forest Mountains , while the western part is in the Haller Bay with the rose garden of the Hohenlohe Plain . It is roughly the shape of a helmet with the brim line to the south.

The northern watershed runs from the outskirts of Gschlachtenbretzingen, where it is just over 400  m above sea level. NHN is quite flat to the east, then in a steep climb to 510  m above sea level. NHN high and above free spur einkorn of the Limpurger mountains and from there further flat to the mountain forest; on the other side of the border, the area drains to the Waschbach , which runs towards the Kocher in the Steinbach district of Hall .

This is followed by the border on the forest plateau at a height between mostly 490  m and 500  m above sea level. NHN roughly the connecting road of the Einkorn, then the road from Hessental to Herlebach (K 2599) and finally roughly the coal road going from this to the southeast and south to a point between Lämmergraben and Hörnle about 400 meters southeast of the highest source. Beyond this dividing line , which is usually difficult to make out in nature because of the flatness of the terrain, the Bühler tributary Fischach begins its course and takes its first right-hand tributaries Sauklingenbach and Lembach from the sheath.

Then the watershed bends to the west, runs out onto the nameless mountain spur northeast of Michelbach, from there steeply down to the Michelbacher Hagenhof at a little over 420  m above sea level. NHN , now flatter again west to the Kocher valley edge at about 370  m above sea level. NHN and finally in a quick descent its right slope down to the mouth at 294.5  m above sea level. NHN . On this section, the Brühlbach to Fischach in Herlebach competes for a short time , then mostly the Michelbach , this again to the Kocher.

From the mouth, the watershed rises quickly north-north-east again to the middle level and up in the same direction further back to the north-west corner on the east edge of Schlachtenbretzingen. To the west of it only a ditch runs out of Geschlachtenbretzingen through the wide valley terrace of the Brühl , more than 50 meters above today's river level, in the direction of Kocher.

The highest point in the catchment area is the spur tip of the Einkorn at 510  m above sea level. NHN . On top of it stands the Einkornturm, from which it is very easy to see.

A quarter of the catchment area on its northeast and eastern edge belong to the district of the city of Schwäbisch Hall, they are located on the western slope of the Limpurger Mountains and on their eaves and are predominantly forested. The remaining drained area, however, belongs to the municipality of Michelbach an der Bilz , which is in the east also has smaller forest areas, mostly on the lower slope, but in places also up to the plateau. In the west there are only a few hectares of forest again at the mouth of the stream. Meadows dominate the open parts of the mountain slope, at the foot of the mountain and further in the flat valley basin up to the railway line, behind which the limestone blade of the lower reaches begins. On the flat hills of the middle altitude, however, mainly arable farming is practiced. The Michelbacher village of Rauhenbretzingen is surrounded by a soft patch of orchards.

By far the largest settlement area in the catchment area is this village a little west of its center, which has around 150 inhabitants and is located a short distance from the course of the stream that passes in the northwest, approximately at the end of the flat middle course. To the southwest of Rauhenbretzingen there is an agricultural property "Aspach" with only one house number on the left on a hill above the Unterlaufklinge, west-southwest of Aspach the small Steinbrück residential area with three on the right on the lower slope of the Unterlaufklinge. Is in the northeast on this side of the grassy slope einkorn the farmstead at medium altitude einkorn , also with only one number. The Schwäbisch Hall part of the area is completely uninhabited, the restaurant on the Einkorn is just across the watershed.

Mouth of the Remsbach at 294.5  m above sea level. NHN from the right and east about 400 meters northeast of the waterworks in the Michelbacher Kocherwiesen in the local Ostschlinge the digester . The stream here is 3.8 km long and has a 3.8 km² catchment area.

geology

The Remsbach arises in the transition area from the silica sandstone ( Hassberge Formation ) to the Lower Bunter Mergeln ( Steigerwald Formation ). It then runs in the Gipskeuper ( Grabfeld Formation ) almost to the end of its north-western section , before it crosses the Lettenkeuper ( Erfurt Formation ) in a flat plain at the foot of the Einkorn . Its lower ravine lies in the Upper Muschelkalk , into which it also flows.

There are a few small cracks in the blade at the western slope of the Bretzinger Halde in the Limpurger Mountains in the catchment area. The marl-rich slopes down to the Gipskeuper occasionally face landslides, which are reflected in a restless slope profile and winding contour lines on the map. Thanks to the open terrain there, slide chutes at the western foot of the Einkorn are clearly visible. A little north-west of the Hagenhof, a north slope in Gipskeuper in the Hundsklinge area shows large recesses caused by landslides, which can be seen very well when looking down from Einkorn. At the Bretzinger Halde there are a number of old ravines that are often unused today. A clump of these climbs the west spur Reute of the Limpurger Mountains, which protrudes from the Höhenwaldgewann Sahrlachen in the east towards Rauhenbretzingen. In the northwest corner of the catchment area close to Gschlachtenbretzingen there is a 0.3 hectare quarry lake in the picture fields above the bottom of a former gypsum pit.

Protected areas

The Unterlaufklinge after Steinbrück and the tiny piece of Kochertalaue belong to the nature reserve Kochertal between Westheim and Steinbach including Klingenbach as well as goat's and donkey's blades . The upper slopes of this section of the valley as well as the upward valley basin to the western edge of Rauhenbretzingen belong to the seamlessly adjoining Kochertal landscape protection area between Westheim and Steinbach with side blades and peripheral areas . The significantly larger protected landscape area west slope of the Limpurger Berge stretches from the municipality boundary of Michelbach, which alternates between the middle and lower slopes of the Limpurger Berge, westward partly to close to the eastern edge of Rauhenbretzingen. The entire area west of this municipal border lies in the Swabian-Franconian Forest Nature Park .
