The Reschbach ( called Reschwasser in some sections ) is a stream in the Lower Bavarian district of Freyung-Grafenau .

course

The stream has its origin on the border with the Czech Republic in the hollow between Černá hora (Schwarzberg 1314 m) and Stráž (Postberg 1308 m) about four kilometers north of Finsterau . The Warm Vltava , a source of the Vltava, rises in the same basin . In contrast to the Vltava, which flows north and flows into the North Sea via the Elbe , the Reschbach lies in the catchment area of the Danube and thus drains into the Black Sea .

The brook flows south in a wide valley west of the towns of Finsterau , Heinrichsbrunn , Hohenröhren and Zwölfhäuser, which are part of the Mauth community . For a few kilometers it forms roughly the eastern border of the Bavarian Forest National Park . Below Mauth, the valley narrows briefly and the Reschbach passes the Mauther districts and Neuhütte. After the stream has passed Raimundsreut, Schönbrunn am Lusen and Bierhütte (all part of the Hohenau community ), it reaches a deeply cut valley (the Buchberger Leite ). There it meets the Saußbach one kilometer southwest of Ahornöd and together with it forms the Wolfsteiner Ohe .

Reschbachklause

After a short stretch of the upper reaches, the Reschbach is dammed in the “Reschbachklause”. This reservoir used to be used by the Holztrift . The 1860 built hermitage is about 0.8 hectares of area, the largest of its kind in the Bavarian Forest . About 300 m below the dam, a canal branches off that leads along the slope of the Siebensteinkopf into the neighboring valley, where it ends in the Teufelsbach . The so-called Schwellgraben was used to divert water from the Reschbach into the Teufelsbach, so that more water was available there to drift wood. In the further course are the remains of the old hermitage. The hermitage built in 1846 was replaced by the Reschbachklause in 1860.

use

During its course, water is withdrawn from the stream several times and used to operate sawmills. Shortly before the union with the Saußbach to Wolfsteiner Ohe , most of the water is diverted from the creek and used to operate the power plants of the Freyung carbide plant (see there for the structure of the plants).

At Mauth, the Reschbach also supplies a swimming lake with water.

Tributaries

Two major tributaries, the Steinbach and the Große Schwarzbach , flow from the high forest to the Reschbach ; in addition to a few smaller streams, the Tyroler Bach also flows into Schönbrunn am Lusen .
