The Rete Trentino Grande Guerra (German roughly: "Network First World War in Trentino") is a museum association of the Autonomous Province of Trento , to which museums and other museum institutions in Trentino that deal with the First World War belong . The project was created on June 5, 2009 and is coordinated by the Rovereto War Museum .

Project description

The Trentino was part of Austria-Hungary until 1918 and with the Italian entry into the war in May 1915 as part of the mountain war, it became a frontline area, which essentially extended along the following lines: Tonale Pass - Adamello Group - Giudicarie - Lake Garda Mountains - Adige Valley - Vallarsa - Pasubio - Plateau from Folgaria and Lavarone - Valsugana - Fiemme Valley Alps - Dolomites - Marmolada .

After the end of the First World War, many collectors and historians became interested in the relics that the conflict had left behind. In 1921 the War Museum Rovereto and the Museo del Risorgimento, which no longer exist in Trento, were founded, the latter today being transferred to the Fondazione del Museo storico del Trentino (German Foundation for the Historical Museum of Trentino ), which maintains several exhibition spaces, such as Le Gallerie di Piedicastello in Trento, two former road tunnels, with changing special exhibitions and the Buco di Vela road block , but currently does not have its own museum. In the course of time, other museums were created from private collections along the former front.

In 2009, the Rete Trentino Grande Guerra was founded to connect these museums (usually of small to medium size).

The main aim of the project is to strengthen the museum offer in Trentino, especially that of the numerous small and mostly privately operated museums scattered throughout the province, and to make this cultural offer known to a wider audience by appearing together as a network and projects z. B. of a didactic nature, for example by uniformly designing the materials for school class visits. Other points of cooperation are the exchange of exhibits at exhibitions, cooperation in training courses for museum and mountain tours, joint internet presence, joint marketing campaigns, uniform design of advertising materials, etc., for which the smaller realities in particular have no resources.

The network is a partner of the Trentino '14 -'18 initiative , a project of the Autonomous Province of Trentino to coordinate the events from 2014 to 2018 related to the Centenary of the First World War.
