Ricardo González (racing driver)
Ricardo González Valdez (born October 20, 1978 in Monterrey ) is a Mexican racing driver . He competed in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) from 2012 to 2015 .
Career
González began his motorsport career in 1990 in kart racing , in which he remained active until 1996. In 1994, 1995 and 1997 he drove in the Mexican Formula 3 championship . From 1998 to 2000 he started in the Pan-American Indy Lights .
In 2001 González moved to Europe and competed in the one-time Formula Chrysler Euroseries . Together with his older brother Roberto , he competed for Alpie Motorsport . While Roberto came second overall, Ricardo came fourth. With 55 to 106 points he lost to his brother within the team. In 2003 González took part in individual races of the World Series by Nissan for Vergani Racing .
After a seven-year hiatus, González returned to motorsport in 2010 and competed in the American Le Mans Series (ALMS). For Car Amigo AJR he initially competed in four races in the GTC class. He then moved to PR1 / Mathiasen Motorsports in the LMPC class for the last four races together with his teammate Luis Díaz . In 2011, González stayed in the ALMS. Together with Gunnar Jeannette he drove for Core Autosport in the LMPC class. The two won the classification in two races and won the LMPC overall classification at the end of the season.
In 2012 González moved to Greaves Motorsport in the newly founded FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC). He formed a driver trio with Elton Julian and Christian Zugel . González missed a race and was represented by his brother Roberto. He finished 27th in the drivers' world championship. In 2012 he also took part in four ALMS races. Once for Core Autosport in the LMPC class and three times for Level 5 Motorsports in the P2 class. In 2013 González received a cockpit at OAK Racing in the FIA World Endurance Championship and competed with Bertrand Baguette and Martin Plowman . The three drivers won the LMP2 classification twice, including at the Le Mans 24-hour race , and finished the season in tenth place in the drivers' world championship. In addition, González took part in an ALMS race for Level 5 Motorsports in 2013.
In 2014 González switched to ART Grand Prix in the European Le Mans Series (ELMS) and finished seventh in the GTC classification. In addition, he made a guest start for Extreme Speed Motorsports in the 6-hour race in Shanghai . In 2015 González returned to the FIA World Endurance Championship. He competed for the G-Drive Racing team overseen by OAK Racing . Together with his teammates Pipo Derani and Gustavo Yacamán , he once won the LMP2 classification. At the end of the season, the trio was in 13th place in the drivers' championship.
