Richard Lawson
Richard Lee Lawson (born March 7, 1947 in Loma Linda , California ) is an American actor . He gained fame primarily through his role as Ryan in the horror film Poltergeist , which appeared in 1982, and as an actor in a large number of television series.
Life
Richard Lawson served as a soldier in the Vietnam War before embarking on an acting career after completing his military service. Lawson had his first (but uncredited) role in Dirty Harry in 1971 . He got his first major film appearance two years later as Willis Daniels in the blaxploitation horror film The Scream of Death , the sequel to Blacula .
In the following years Lawson appeared in several well-known film and television productions, including 1979 as Hector Mantilla in the comedy What, you don't want? and 1984 in a small role as Officer Ed Price in the action film Streets in Flames . However, he achieved his greatest fame in 1982 through the role of the paroscientist Ryan in Tobe Hooper's horror film Poltergeist .
In the following years Lawson continued to be seen in several films, but focused his work predominantly on television series. In 1983 he played the role of Dr. Ben Taylor in the two-part sci-fi miniseries V . The previous year, Lawson starred as Detective OZ Tate in all 13 episodes of the short-lived television series Chicago Story . From 1986 to 1987 he played the role of Nick Kimball in a total of 11 episodes of The Denver Clan . Lawson is still active as an actor to this day.
Richard Lawson was married twice. A 1978 marriage to actress Denise Gordy divorced in 1989. The daughter Bianca Lawson , born in 1979, is also active as an actress. He has been married to Tina Knowles, the mother of Beyoncé and Solange Knowles , since 2015 .
In March 1992 Lawson was among the 24 survivors of USAir Flight 405, which killed 27 people in the crash. The plane crashed shortly after taking off from LaGuardia Airport .
