Richard Venture

Richard Venture (actually Richard Venturella ; born November 11, 1923 in West New York , New Jersey , † December 19, 2017 in Chester , Connecticut ) was an American actor .

Life

Venture began his career at the theater and had in 1951 his Broadway debut in the melodrama Dinosaur Wharf on the side of Barnard Hughes , which was however canceled after four performances. In 1953 he played Tubal in William Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice . The following year he made a television debut in the soap opera The Secret Storm ; However, his career did not get off the ground and in the early 1970s there were few short guest appearances and an extra role in a feature film. He had his first major film role in 1972 in Paul Newman's The Effect of Gamma Rays on Marigolds , from then on he was a well-booked guest in various series formats for the next few decades. He also had supporting roles in, among other things, the four- star drama Die Unbrechlichen , the film satire Willkommen Mr. Chance , the mafia film The Sicilian and the literary adaptation The Scent of Women . He had a slightly larger role alongside Jack Lemmon and Sissy Spacek as the American ambassador in the Oscar-winning drama Missing from Costa-Gavras . He was especially popular with the television audience through his role as Lt. Cmdr. Leo Altobelli known in the television series Streethawk , he had other recurring series roles as John Osborne in Falcon Crest and Douglas Greer in Law & Order .
