history

Rippberg was first mentioned in 1197 as Rietberg (Berg im Ried ). In the late Middle Ages the place was owned by the ministerial family von Dürn and Würzburg fiefdom. Around 1590 came the reversion to Würzburg, which enfeoffed the Echter von Mespelbrunn with the rule. In 1665, Würzburg again fell back, and in 1677 the place , which had been completely lost in the Thirty Years' War, was restored and made the official seat . In the course of secularization , the office fell to the Principality of Leiningen in 1803 and came to the Grand Duchy of Baden in 1806 .

On December 1, 1972, it was incorporated into Walldürn. Rippberg forms a common village with Hornbach .

Former coat of arms

In 1958 the Ministry of the Interior issued a coat of arms, which represented an improvement of the coat of arms proposed by the General State Archives in 1909: "In silver (white) on a green floor, a red gate tower with retaining walls." With the incorporation into Walldürn, the coat of arms became extinct.
