Robert Hoy
Robert Francis Hoy (born April 3, 1927 in New York City , New York - † February 8, 2010 in Northridge , California ) was an American actor and stunt performer .
Life
Hoy served in the Navy during World War II . From 1950 he worked as a stuntman on feature films and television series , mostly from the western genre . Some of the most famous films in which he worked as a stuntman include Alfred Hitchcock's The Invisible Third , Stanley Kubrick's Spartacus and Clint Eastwood's The Texan . In total, he worked as a stuntman for 44 years and was the double of Telly Savalas , Audie Murphy and Tony Curtis , among others .
In addition to his work as a stuntman, Hoy also appeared as an actor in feature films from 1950, but until the end of the 1950s mostly in small supporting roles that were not named end credits. He then worked increasingly for television and played guest roles in various television series, including the classic western series Bonanza , West of Santa Fe and At the foot of the Blue Mountains . Between 1967 and 1971 he played the cowboy Joe Butler in 62 episodes of the series High Chaparral . Between 1978 and 1982 he had a recurring guest role on the series Dallas .
Hoy was married and had a son. He died of cancer just weeks after receiving the Golden Boot Award .
