Robert Owen Jones

Sir Robert Owen Jones , KBE , CB , AFC , FRAeS ( April 19, 1901 - October 13, 1972 ) was a British Air Force officer in the Royal Air Force , who last served in the rank of Lieutenant General ( Air Marshal ) between 1952 and 1956 Luftwaffe for engineering and equipment.

Life

Jones first completed an undergraduate degree , which he completed with a Bachelor of Arts . He completed a degree in mechanical engineering at the Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine with a diploma. On January 3, 1924, he joined the Royal Air Force as a contract soldier (Short Service Commission) and began his pilot training on January 12, 1924 at the No 4 Flying Training School . There he was promoted to lieutenant (pilot officer) on July 3, 1924 , after which he was transferred to the staff of the Air Force Depot in British India on March 8, 1925 and promoted to first lieutenant (flying officer) there on August 3, 1925 . On October 15, 1925, he moved as a pilot to No 27 Squadron RAF and on September 18, 1926 as a professional soldier (Permanent Commission) in the RAF and began an engineering course for officers at the Home Aircraft Depot . On January 1, 1929, he began a further course at the University of Cambridge and belonged to the local air squadron (Cambridge University Air Squadron) , where on March 20, 1929 he was promoted to captain (Flight Lieutenant) . This was followed by a further course of study at the University of London from October 1, 1930, followed by a special assignment from July 17, 1931 to the Royal Aircraft Establishment (RAE), the research and development institution of the Air Force.

After attending the RAF Staff College, Andover from January 22, 1934 to February 9, 1935 Jones was aviation commander of No 39 Squadron RAF and was promoted to Major (Squadron Leader) on August 1, 1936 . Then he was on February 7, 1936 Commanding Officer ( Commanding Officer ) of No 11 Squadron RAF , on January 2, 1939 with the Air Force Cross (AFC) and on April 1, 1939 promoted to Lieutenant Colonel (Wing Commander) . During the Second World War he was transferred to the Technical Troop of the RAF on April 24, 1940 and served as deputy head of the technical department of the British Air Force Commission in the USA . During this time he was promoted to Companion of the Order of the Bath (CB) on January 1, 1944 and on December 1, 1944 to Colonel (Group Captain) . In addition, after the end of the war on March 15, 1946, he became Commander of the US Legion of Merit and was promoted to Brigadier General (Air Commodore) on April 1, 1948 .

After his promotion to Major General (Air Vice Marshal) on 1 January 1948 he was in April 1948 Director of the Policy Planning Staff at the Air Ministry ( Air Ministry ) and as such was for the supervision of the technical services responsible. Subsequently, on October 25, 1948, he became senior staff officer SASO (Senior Air Staff Officer) of the Air Force Reserve Command and on December 31, 1949 AOC (Air Officer Commanding) commander of the No 24 (Training) Group . Most recently, he took over the position of Air Force stage manager for engineering and equipment (Controller of Engineering and Equipment) on September 12, 1952, and held this position until he retired on October 31, 1956. During this time, Jones, the also a member of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (MIMechE) and Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society (FRAeS) was promoted to Lieutenant General ( Air Marshal ) on January 1, 1953 . Also on January 1, 1953, he was beaten Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire (KBE), whereupon he led the name suffix "Sir".
