Robert von Fischer

Robert Fischer , since 1908 Ritter von Fischer , (born February 23, 1859 in Hilpoltstein , † December 2, 1937 in Munich ) was a Bavarian general of the infantry .

Life

Fischer was the son of an administrative judge. After attending a secondary school , Fischer joined the 1st Infantry Regiment "König" of the Bavarian Army in 1878 . With promotion to lieutenant , he was transferred to the 13th Infantry Regiment in mid-November 1880 . Fischer graduated from the War Academy in 1884/87 , which gave him the qualification for the general staff, the higher adjutantage and the subject ( tactics , geography, military drawing). As a first lieutenant he was adjutant in the 4th Infantry Brigade from 1890 to 1895 . Fischer then returned to service as a captain and company commander . In 1896 he was transferred to the General Staff of the II Army Corps and two years later to the Central Office of the General Staff. From 1899 onwards he was employed in the General Staff of the 4th Division . In this position, Fischer was promoted to major in 1901 , before he returned to service as a battalion commander in the 1st Infantry Regiment "König". In the following year, Fischer was transferred to the War Ministry and in 1905 appointed head of the Department for General Army Affairs. In this position he was promoted to colonel until July 1907 . From October 16, 1908 to October 22, 1910, Fischer was in command of the 1st Infantry Regiment "König". As such, he was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Bavarian Crown in 1908 . The personal nobility was associated with the loan and after being entered in the nobility register, he was allowed to call himself “Ritter von Fischer”.

With his promotion to major general , Fischer became commander of the 9th Infantry Brigade on October 23, 1910 and then worked in the same function in the 1st Infantry Brigade from August 22, 1911 to September 30, 1913 . Subsequently, Fischer was appointed lieutenant general in command of the fortress Germersheim . He retained this position on the outbreak of World War I and was appointed commander of the 1st Landwehr Division on September 7, 1914 , which at that time was involved in fighting around Nancy - Épinal . After trench warfare in Lorraine , Fischer gave the large association to his successor Lieutenant General Felix Eder (1856–1942). In 1917 Fischer was given the character of a general of the infantry.

Fischer had married Elisabeth Himbsel in 1889. The marriage had three children.
