Robin Koch (born July 17, 1996 in Kaiserslautern ) is a German soccer player . The center- back is under contract with Leeds United in England and is a senior international. His father Harry played for 1. FC Kaiserslautern for many years .

Career

Robin Koch was born in Kaiserslautern during his father Harry Koch's active days at FCK. Robin Koch started playing club football at 1. FC Kaiserslautern at the age of five. When his family moved to Dörbach in the southern Eifel in the district of Bernkastel-Wittlich , he joined SV Dörbach, where his father was later a coach for the first team. In 2009 he moved to SV Eintracht Trier . During his time as a youth player at Eintracht Trier, he was invited to viewing courses for the German Football Association. In the 2014/15 season he moved up to the squad of the second men's team of SV Eintracht, which competed in the Rhineland League. On September 22, 2014, Koch was used in the first team in a league game ( Regionalliga Südwest ) and immediately established himself as a regular player.

After the season he moved back to 1. FC Kaiserslautern. There he played for the second team, also in the Regionalliga Südwest, and in the following season in September 2016 he signed a professional contract with a term until 2019. Shortly afterwards, on October 2, 2016, he played his first game for the first team in the 2 Bundesliga .

In August 2017, he moved to Bundesliga club SC Freiburg for a transfer fee of around 3.5 million euros . There he made his Bundesliga debut in the 1-1 draw against Hertha BSC on October 22, 2017 (9th matchday) when he came on for Philipp Lienhart in the 85th minute . He scored his first competitive goal for Freiburg when he scored 1-1 at Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga (18th matchday) on January 13, 2018 .

In the summer of 2020, the center-back moved to Leeds United and signed a contract there until 2024.

National team

On October 12, 2018, Koch played with the German U21s against Norway and thus for the first time for a national team. He came on in the 73rd minute for Eduard Löwen . On October 7, 2019, he was nominated for the first time for the senior national team by national coach Joachim Löw for the test match against the Argentine national team and for the EM qualifier against the Estonian national team . In the game against Argentina he made his debut from the start a day later in Dortmund .
