Romain Ghanem Paul Saïss ( Arabic رومان غانم سايس, DMG Raumān Ġānim Sāyis ; born on March 26, 1990 in Bourg-de-Péage , France ) is a Moroccan football player . He is currently under contract with the English first division club Wolverhampton Wanderers .

Career

Saïss' father is from Morocco and his mother is French .
Saïss' started his career with the French amateur club AS Valence . In 2011 he then made the jump to the second division club Clermont Foot . After two years with regular assignments, he switched to AC Le Havre , which was classified equally . After two more years in Ligue 2 , the first-class SCO signed Angers Saïss. After Saïss quickly became a regular player, foreign clubs also noticed him. In the summer of 2016, he moved to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the second highest English league for a transfer fee of around 4 million euros .
At club level, Saïss mainly plays in defensive midfield , but in the national team he is more often used in central defense. He is a great admirer of the Spanish midfielder Sergio Busquets . According to him, his game, especially the positional play and the simple style of play, is inspired by Busquets.

National team career

Saïss decided to run for his father's homeland, Morocco . He made his debut in 2012 in a friendly against Togo , which was lost 1-0.
After not being called up to the national team for a few years, he made his competitive debut in qualifying for the 2017 Africa Cup in 2016 . In the game against the Cape Verde Islands , Morocco won 1-0, Saïss played through. Saïss also took part in the Africa Cup 2017 , he played 3 games. In the second group match against Togo , he scored his first international goal.
Saïss played the full distance in all games of the 2018 World Cup qualification and thus played a significant role in Morocco's qualification for the 2018 World Cup in Russia . After a 2-2 draw against Spain and two 0-1 defeats against Portugal and Iran , Morocco was the last in Group B to be eliminated from the tournament. Saïss was used as a center-back in the first and last games.
